Aeropress with Hario Mini Mill hand grinder and Pact subscription here. Two coffees a day, 10-13g of beans per cup, so I get about 10 cups from a 250g bag of whole beans.
Use an automatic burr grinder at home, only one coffee on Saturday and Sunday.
I use a fine steel mesh filter (S Filter) with the Aeropress at work, removes the need to keep filters safe from the cleaners, other fluids, etc. I use a combo of steel mesh and paper filter at home. The paper filter doesn't catch much, the steel blocks almost everything.
Different beans benefit from different grind size and steeping time. Some coffees, I'll brew in the Aeropress upside down, as otherwise the water filters through a bit too quickly (the steel mesh is more porous than the paper filters to begin with). The grinders, both manual and automatic, make it easy to adjust. Overextracted coffee is bitter, underextracted is sour. Finer grinds and longer steeping increases extraction. But my taste also varies, depending on how tired I am. ____________________ Bikes: S1000R, SH350; Exes: Vity 125, PS125, YBR125, ER6f, VFR800, Brutale 920, CB600F, SH300x4

I bought a DeLonghi EC152 around a year ago and have used it daily since then. It's a simple one, but turns out decent enough coffee. I have generally bought from supermarkets, stuff like Taylors and Illy, but recently found a relatively local online supplier that I think I might give another go.
What I like about a pumped machine vs a pod-based system is that you, as the 'barista', have an influence over how it turns out. How much coffee you use, how hard you tamp it, how long you pump for, the grind size etc. There's a skill to it, which appeals to me (at the risk of getting some cups that aren't so great). ____________________

Whilst I think the "Use by" dates are a con, that's pushing it a bit. ____________________ Chances are quite high you are not in my Monkeysphere, and I don't care about you. Don't take it personally.

at work I drink Tesco French ground from a cafetiere or taylors if its on offer cause I drink too much of it to buy the dear stuff.
I bought a grinder and have been using Tesco's Java Sumatra Beans, which are rather nice, and I bought some Panama Dark and some Gautemala beans from fresco gaurmet coffee - https://www.frescogourmetcoffee.co.uk/ again in a cafetiere.
I have also got a nespresso machine. ____________________ "The guy is a worthless cunt and I honestly believe I would be a slightly happier person if he died." - Chris-Red |
