Remote killswitch

Hi, looking for some advice.

A friend has bought there kid a 50cc dirt bike, the problem is that the kid is fearless on it. First time on it and he pinned the throttle and f*cked off into the distance. the 2nd time he did the same but was proper close to having serious accident. He has all the right gear but still he'd have been hurt badly.
Anyway, i was asked if i knew of a way to restrict the bike power wise, i'm sure there is but i'm not sure if that's the best way of dealing with this.
The kid needs some guidance for sure but i think having a fail safe of something like a remote kill switch for the bike would make everyone feel better until he has some more experience.

Is anyone aware of something like a remote kill switch for a bike, is it possible? anyone used one? what sort of distance can you get before its out of range.

Kill switch is a dumb idea. Kill the power and drop him right into a turn, yeah great.

There are numerous ways to restrict the power output. A throttle stop, intake restrictor, exhaust restrictor washer etc.

I bet my money, on a accidental usage of the remote kill switch while you're on the bike, resulting in a bad accident. Thumbs Up

restricting the power wont stop him from running straight into a tree or wall, i also doubt very much he's going to be dropping the bike into hard turns before he starts learning how to use the throttle properly.

The killswitch would only be used while he learns to ride.

How old is the kid?

I got my first bike around eight years old. And it was turned down by the throttle cable. And if I weren't riding it safely my parents wouldn't let me out on it the next weekend or so.

Also, I wouldn't really let the kid ride on his own, can the father fit on the back of the bike or is it something along the lines of a PW50?

We have 5 and 6year olds at our track

They all listen to there dads telling them what to do and were to ride

If this kid can't do that he shouldn't be riding imo

remote killswitches are indeed dangerous

Some kids bikes have an adjustable throttle stop, and such restriction can easily be bodged together. Be careful with loose throttle cable, may cause throttle to jam or cable to unhook from one end, could be dangerous.

Best way to educate child that throttle is not an on off switch is to give them a tight course to navigate that is impossible at full throttle.

perhaps the question is not "what does one buy for child" but "how does one coach/manage/parent said child". I suspect there will not be a satisfactory solution given that child appears to have been given dirt bike and all the trimmings for Christmas without adequate thought given to what to do with dirtbike equipped child.

A slice of blue water pipe above the throttle valve will make a pretty effective throttle stop on most bikes.

Is it an automatic with a CVT? Could also be restricted at the transmission if it is to cut both acceleration and top speed.
