Kill switch is a dumb idea. Kill the power and drop him right into a turn, yeah great.
There are numerous ways to restrict the power output. A throttle stop, intake restrictor, exhaust restrictor washer etc. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

I bet my money, on a accidental usage of the remote kill switch while you're on the bike, resulting in a bad accident. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

Some kids bikes have an adjustable throttle stop, and such restriction can easily be bodged together. Be careful with loose throttle cable, may cause throttle to jam or cable to unhook from one end, could be dangerous.
Best way to educate child that throttle is not an on off switch is to give them a tight course to navigate that is impossible at full throttle.
perhaps the question is not "what does one buy for child" but "how does one coach/manage/parent said child". I suspect there will not be a satisfactory solution given that child appears to have been given dirt bike and all the trimmings for Christmas without adequate thought given to what to do with dirtbike equipped child. |
Likely to be a case of too little too late for both parent and child.. hard to go back four five years to reading bed-time stories, so it learns to 'listen' instead of plonking it in front of the TV; working through such activities as baking biscuits, so it learns to follow instructions, rather than handing it a Dee-Ess to try and get the high score at making Peppa-Pig-Pancakes;
That said.. my beginnings in powered two wheel perambulation, at age 9, was when emptying the garage so my Grandad could weld up a Hilman Imp for its MOT, and standing wide eyed playing with the twist-grip of my mums old MOT fail Moped, my uncle 'Joked'.. "If y'c'n fix-it, Y'c'n 'av it!"...... So I did... within the hour.... think, 'by accident'.. ripped all the wiring off it.. and it started!
I recall very embarrassed and worried Uncle running around the orchard, flapping his arms like a chicken trying to get run over, very amused Grandad stood on the lawn laughing, and eventually my Mum took charge; flagged me down and told me to wear her old helmet.... I seem to recall my Uncle stammering something about "The Trees" to which my mother replied, "Oh! They'll be OK, they aren't in in sap yet!" .. then after a little more stammering from Uncle "Oh! Well! He can only hit ONE at a time... they'll slow him down.... wont they?" But then, when I was a kid they still put lead in paint.
If the kids on private ground inaccessible to Joe public... only harm he can do is to himself... he'll learn.... if not? Well, RTA applies and fairly sure plod will sooner or later take an interest doling out an S59 and sizing the bike, and alleviating all of the 'problem'. ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

A slice of blue water pipe above the throttle valve will make a pretty effective throttle stop on most bikes.
Is it an automatic with a CVT? Could also be restricted at the transmission if it is to cut both acceleration and top speed. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
