I have a Canon Powershot S110 and a Drift Ghost hd.
The S110 I love , it is tiny so you can stick it in your pocket and take it everywhere. Full manual control and much better image quality then a phone.
The Drift is only my second action camera but seems to do everything it should. The fish eye thing is a bit of a fad and gets old pretty quickly when using it for photos.
Been thinking about buying something a little more involving, a DSLR or system compact but not really sure if I'd use it enough. As you need to make a special effort to go out and take photos rather then just being out and shooting something interesting.
What do you have, use it much? ____________________ Yamaha FZR400RR 3tj

I agree with Bodyguard (no one quote me on that... ever... please)
iPhone has a pretty good camera, only with certain lighting is it a bit $hit.
I do plan to purchase a helmet cam' too, probably a cheaper Sj1000 (or whatever it's), although I'd like a bullet cam' just because they're more streamlined and a bit more discrete. ____________________ Yamaha MT-03 '08 (crashed)

Camera is just a cheap little Fuji digital I picked up from Tesco of all places. It has constantly surprised me with the quality of some of the shots I've taken with it. Nothing to a professional standard, but good enough for my needs. Compact, fits in a jacket pocket, so it's always handy.
Video camera is another cheapy, an Action Cam 3. Quality isn't brilliant, but I bought it just to see how I'd get along with it. It doesn't have many mounting options, and no screen to check it's orientation, although I pretty much know how to mount it to get the pic I want now (after a few great vids of sky or tarmac ), but now on the verge of buying something better quality, as I'm putting together some compilations of various rides I've done (don't worry, won't inflict them on you lot ) and could do with more than one camera to achieve what I want to.
Is it just me that doesn't like to have a camera helmet mounted? Watching some footage of cameras mounted this way makes me seasick But I need a way to get one mounted at that kind of height to catch scenic shots, so will be thinking along the lines of some kind of pole mount. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Canon 5Dmk2
Canon 550D
Various lenses ranging from 8mm fisheye to 300mm telephoto.
GoPro Hero 2
Phone (Motorolla Moto G 2nd Gen)
I don't mind carrying my DSLR around and in fact I prefer it over my GoPro for riding photos. Not for on bike videos though. Saying that my 5D & 24-70L comes in at just under 2kg so I understand why some people don't want to be carrying that around all day.
I took my DSLR travelling around S.E. Asia for 6 months with two lenses and it was fine. I don't really take that many photos when I'm out and about just running errands but the camera on my phone is ok for snapping things I either need to remember or think is funny. I'm sure _Will_ will be here soon to tell us that the best camera is the one you have on you
I reckon the camera market is changing at the moment. Some of the Sony mirrorless cameras look really great for roughly the same price as an equivalent DSLR yet are much smaller and in some cases have better features than DSLR's (Sony A7s low light performance just an example). Videographers are moving away from DSLR's as well now so I think it will be interesting to see what new developments the big camera brands will come up with to keep DSLR's relevant and selling. If I was rich I'd actually be excited about this ____________________ Now: '00 Kawasaki ZRX1100R - Past: '84 Yamaha DT125, '89 Kawasaki KLR600, '97 Yamaha XJ600N

I do find myself lusting after a DSLR though as I could use more settings, having 2-3 aperture stops (zoom depending) is just not cutting it for me anymore along with a max 8 second exposure. I need moar! MOAR! MOAR PWAR! |
I could do with a more powerful zoom, but not at the expense of it no longer fitting in my pocket, or being lots more expensive cos it has loads of features I don't understand how to use ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Canon 5DMkII and various flashes, lenses etc. - I use it for work stuff now and again, although I don't get paid extra for doing so it's satisfying to see my pics 'in print'. It's a pain lugging it all about, but you can do things with it you just can't do with a compact, and I still think looking through a viewfinder is the best way to compose a picture.
Canon Ixus 220 HS tiny compact thing, I got this so I'd always have something a little more flexible than a camera phone when I was out and about. It doesn't seem very substantial though. ____________________ BMW R1100R |

Pretty pathetic selection for me.
Samsung S3 - in all honesty the quality itself would be enough for me, but the motion-focus/lighting-sensor (probably not the right technical terms ) is terrible most of the time.
Otherwise its the Drift 720. For the price I can't really fault it, although I am thinking about getting a 1080 Drift if I can get one cheap enough soon, would be nice to get 'photo-quality' screengrabs off it. Not a fan of Go-Pros bulky shape for helmet/bike cams etc. |

I have a drift ghost HD too, but the stills from it are quite poor - you might just as well do a screengrab from video afterwards if you wanted a quick still from it.
This is is a screen grab from a video viewed fullscreen from it.
