Not exactly bike, but road and will have an impact on insurance for bike.
Our van got snapped doing 57 in a 50 back in August and as it is registered in the wife's name, she got the initial letter asking who was driving etc.
As I suspect it were me, I duly filled in the form on the back and sent it off awaiting for the ticket to come through.
So far, I have not received anything through and we are talking about 3 months now.
Is there a defined time after which they forget about it and leave you alone, or can I expect to find a letter for me in about 6 months demanding the bribe for having a heavy foot?

You're not totally out of the woods until 6 months have expired.
I would have thought for a simple 57 in a 50, you'd have been offered a fixed penalty by now.
Which leaves us with four options.
1) They have lost the paperwork/dumped case. Result!
2) You did not receive the FPN offer for some reason. In which case you would most likely land up being summonsed.
3) They are shaping up to take you to court for the original offence or some other related offence (you were insured right?).
4) They didn't receive your reply in which case your wife might land up with a summons for failure to furnish. I believe an interpretation act defence would apply in this case.
In any case. Let sleeping dogs lie and keep your fingers crossed. Since you have not been officially notified about a pending prosecution, no need to mention it to the insurance at this point. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. Cheers, i was thinking along those lines myself, just wanted to see it i was in the right frame of mind.
I'd be inclined to think that it is more likely to be option 1) (or i am hoping so) and the insurance is not due on any of the vehicles for a few months yet.
Like you say, letting the puppies snooze

I suspect you will have a problem, the form should have been filled in by the registered keeper (your wife, but naming you as the driver), and sent back. Then you would have received another form to fill in naming yourself as the driver.
People have been convicted of failure to furnish details after making the same mistake.
I'd seriously think about getting in touch with them about it, the chances of them forgetting about it are non existent. |
Edit....
The form was filled in correctly and signed by my wife, naming me as the driver and subsequently returned....
So far I have heard nothing back from anyone ____________________ 2002 Rieju RS2-50 (Sold, spares or repair), 2010 Suzuki DR-125SM (Traded for ->), 2007 Honda CBF 600 (Sold), 2010 Suzuki V-Strom 1000 (Briefly, now returned), 2007 Suzuki Intruder 1800m (Even More Briefly, traded in for ->), 2014 Suzuki V-Strom 650 |

Recorded delivery? Proof of postage?
Ultimately, either of those is probably more important than the contents of the envelope.

Transit sized? Just so we're crystal clear, that's a light goods vehicle and the limit on any NSL single carriageway is 50.
I mention this because I recently noticed several white van men sticking religiously[*] to an indicated 60 on the average speed camera A9, and expect they'll soon be ejaculating "Whit's this speeding pish? I wis only daein' 60!"
[*] It's an unshakeable tenet of faith that hanging off my rear bumper at 60 shortens the journey time. |
Vauxhall Vivaro van.
Don't wish to dispute the info, but i always thought it came under the same rules as cars up to 3.5 tonnes? ____________________ 2002 Rieju RS2-50 (Sold, spares or repair), 2010 Suzuki DR-125SM (Traded for ->), 2007 Honda CBF 600 (Sold), 2010 Suzuki V-Strom 1000 (Briefly, now returned), 2007 Suzuki Intruder 1800m (Even More Briefly, traded in for ->), 2014 Suzuki V-Strom 650 |

Well you live and learn.
I did not realise that I have been speedy for so long.
Wonder if the Popo know this, as been pootling along at a steady 70 on the motorway and Dual Cabbage ways alike and never been pulled by nice man in uniform or snapped for it.
Will have to let the wifey know too as she drives it more than I

I'm sure that they know but don't really care that much. It's a very broad brush from a Transit Connect up to a 7.5 tonne Luton.
I remarked on the A9 because the HGV limit in NSL is just 40 and despite the proliferation of police cars there they never stuck to it and would have caused (even more) chaos if they had.
With the average speed cameras going in now, they've also put a trial limit of 50 for HGVs, which is essentially an admission that the national limit is unrealistically low and out of date. I wouldn't be astonished to find that there's an unpublicised higher threshold for LGVs as well. But technically, you can be done for 51mph in a van. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Me and my big bloody mouth.
Got home yesterday to a nice letter from Dyfed Powys Police saying that they have received my admission of guilt
On the plus side, I have been offered a speed awareness course, so no point to worry about and the £85 for the course is less than the £100 fine that would have gone with the points.
Anyone else doing the course in Cardigan on the 17th Feb? only a half day, so a ride out afterwards?

Aw well, probably the best result.
Presumably the speed awareness course will cover vehicle speeds? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
