Recently ish my YBR 125 has an issue where it completely loses power at high revs , as if the clutch had been pulled in. Upon letting the revs fall to about 4k I can open the throttle again and continue as usual.

I've only noticed it happening shortly after switching the engine (and so, only in 1st or 2nd) on but it will happen whether the engine is hot or cold.

It's not really an issue because it doesn't happen accelerating away at normal speed but I am worried it could be an early warning sign of something.

Does it continue to rev but the speed stays the same? Clutch slipping perhaps?

It continues to rev but the engine warning light flashes and no power is delivered to the engine so the bike slows down.

If I held the throttle on I think it would just redline.

Likely won't matter.

The warning light flashes, maybe not the clutch then. How many times does it flash.

I was using some Mobil 10W40 bike oil and changed yesterday to Halfords semisyn 10W40. Happens with both.

Uh not sure about the light, I will try and reproduce it and count.

It looks like it actually has the potential to do this in any gear above around 8k rpm. Redline is at 9k.

What happens is that it loses all drive and the revs shoot all the way up. I close the throttle and the revs drop off and it will pick back up as normal.

If you've fitted a red powerband then this is most likely slipping.

I kid I kid, sounds like clutch slip

I think the clutch might be slipping. Just a hunch...

So check lever free-play and if that's fine then get it to a mechanic?

Is it harmful for it to be in this state (I won't rev it above 8k now)?

It'll just keep getting progressively worse until you can sit idling in gear and not going anywhere.

Or, it'll assplode into a bazillion pieces while you are riding past a church full of kitten carrying nuns, killing everything in a 2 mile radius, except you - you'll have to live with yourself.........
