Are these any good? Or do they just rip your head to bits.

I've been using clippers for ever, well, 20+ years anyway Smile
Mine have always been Wahl, and I've only ever bought 2 sets!
The first ones lasted for 24 years! the latest ones I've had for a year, give or take a month or 2.
I have very thick hair and no problems with my clippers.
I have bought cheaper clippers twice, both times they've proved to be useless on my head, tugging, jamming, generally crap.
Wahl Super Taper are the ones I've got atm. Not the most expensive, sort of mid range, but powerful enough to get through my mop.

they are really good if you use them to keep your hair a certain grade.
But complete pants at cutting it to a grade.

I used them once every week or two to keep it short, but got bored after a month so went back to just using clippers every month or two.

If you are anywhere near Portsmouth you can have a try of mine for a few weeks to see how you get on, to save spending out and not liking them.

They are shit, as above. If they are cutting more than 3mm off they pull tug and jam.

Whal every time. I get a blade 1 and the dog gets a blade 4.

I think Il buy some they're on sale in Sainsburys and I have a load of nectar points to blow. Cheaper than trip to Portsmouth 😁 I'm in Aberdeen.

They're rubbish and more difficult than just using a normal set of clippers. Mine were bought for me from Argos and they were very good when I returned them though. Thumbs Up to Argos.

Take note of what hedgehugger & Fisty said.
Or ask a barber, the answer will be the same!

Do you like having your hair torn out? If not, don't buy one.

I had one and it just tore and chewed at my hair while it screwed up the ends of it. I had to cut it back extra short with my conventional clippers to remove the damaged parts (and it was a grade 4 to start with). I felt lucky to have got away without it being physically stuck to my head.

Looking at the amazon reviews, they are almost all either 4 star or one star. Looks like a little over 40% of the people who left a review thought they were utter crap. Not a good number.

Looks shit.

I can shave my head with standard wahl clippers in about 5 mins with no missed spots and no mirror(s).

Historically I've used two mirrors to get a view of the crown of my head, where I always used to miss bits. Or asked someone else to have a quick look over.

I have wahl clippers only used them for my beard though. Perhaps I need to have a go at my head with them first. Luckily I've reached that age where I don't give a monkeys how my hair looks 😁

I used to have a babylis itrim or some such. Had an electrically adjustable head that made it a perfect pube trimmer.

Have cheapish Remington rechargeable clippers. When they work they are good but need a new set. Problems:

Quite often the motor speeds up and can see the blade moving, but wont cut shit. I assume hair gets trapped under blade. Excessive time cleaning and lubing blade eventually fixes it. Almost abandoned cut half way through a couple of times Shocked

Battery was way underpowered (not duration, just available powaaar) , so I wired it up to 3x 4000mAh NIMH cells, perfect. When working properly this could chop long hair no issues.

So rechargeable again, but needs decent mechanical parts. Recommend?

Yes, very dangerous to attempt to use clippers on a scrotum!

Been doing what's left of my own hair with clippers for about 25 years now - cheap ones are just that. To get them to work you have to set them to bloody noisy and it really isn't pleasant. Also the cheaper ones can pull rather than cut - not really my bag Mr. Green

Have used Babylis for a few years ( got 3 pairs cheap and i'm on the last set now) but they're not that great but then it depends how much hair you have left / how thick it is.

The cost of something decent ( Wahl) compared to how much you'll save on Barbers / hair product crap makes the purchase of something decent a no brainer.

Battery / Rechargeable are ok but if you want a proper cut - mains powered is just better as there's no battery to slowly die in them.

Real men use a blade on their scalp.

Once you've tried it, you'll never go back to clippers

Been using a Wahl set for the fortnightly hedge trimming
(Mind you, nowadays I seem to have more hair coming out me ears
and nose than off me head)
Easy to use and reliable, stick the No2 gate on and both hairs are nicely trimmed in no time
