Heat could help, warm up the engine.
The screw driver trick, well, in 9 out of 10 cases it works like charm, but that 1 case may result in having a oil filter torn apart, yet still attached to your bike, and then what?
I've got this:

If a filter is so stuck that it disintegrates with a screwdriver, could you have got it off successfully by any other method?
I ask because I've had one that I struggled with for a good hour with tape and that strap thing, wrestling and tapping away at it, and it wouldn't budge.
What else should I have tried before going for the screwdriver? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I'll be honest and state I just go directly to screwdriver if they don't undo by hand.
If I put them on initially, they invariably undo by hand although I usually make sure it's clean and put on a grippy pair of gloves. Remember to oil the o-ring and do it up hand-tight when replacing it. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. I can't guarantee all canister oil filters are the same, but I once managed to remove one on a car that the owner had totally mangled.
I used an old wood chisel to chop off the top part of the canister, pulled the paper filter out with pliers, and found it easier to lever around the base of the filter, to break the seal between the filter seal and the engine block.
Made it easier to tap it around anti-clockwise from above, as there wasn't very good access from the sides. ____________________ Honda Varadero XL125(V8)
