Posted: 10:49 - 27 Jan 2015 Post subject: [UPDATED] How much is my Yamaha WR125X worth? |
 |
|
JUST TO CLEAR THINGS UP - THE BIKE WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW ON FINANCE FOR £4200 (EXCLUDING INTEREST).
I HAVE HAD A PAYOUT FOR THE BIKE AND ENDED UP BUYING IT BACK FROM THE INSURANCE FOR £250 (WHICH I HAVE PROOF OF).
I OWN THE BIKE.
THE CRASH WAS NOT MY FAULT, THE LADY THAT PULLED OUT ON ME ADMITTED FULL LIABILITY AND IT HAS ALL GONE IN MY FAVOUR.
THE CRACK ON THE FRAME IS IN BETWEEN THE FORKS WHERE THE HANDLEBARS CONNECT (NO PICTURE, BUT I CAN GET ONE LATER TONIGHT)
IT'S A CATEGORY B WRITE OFF.
Hi,
I had this bike for 3 weeks before some lady pulled out on me and wrote it off... It was brand new and I'm still paying the finance off for the next 3 years! (CRINGE)
Yeah, so judging by the pictures below, how much do you think it's worth considering the last image is all the parts that a garage needs to replace so the bike is pretty much back to being new again...

Garage repairs needed: https://gyazo.com/49e46cb4c82df358a4fe7857d8bcfe5a
Please bare in mind that the frame is cracked and the forks are bent!
The bike has only done 800 miles, therefore the engine is nearly new as it wasn't affected by the crash.
Any help will be much appreciated!

About £400 really, engine, swing arm and rear wheel are likely the £££ items.
However, I'd buy it, now, £200.
I do query why you aren't going through insurance. |

There's no simple answer to your question. It's worth as much as someone is prepared to pay for it, as a whole or in parts. That depends on the details.

The frame is the bike. If it can't be repaired, then that bike is no more. It has ceased to be. It has expired and gone to meet its maker.
A 'frame swap' would mean moving the parts from your bike into a different bike, with a different V5 and reg number.
So, help us to help you. Give all the information.
How bad is the frame?
Have insurers got involved? If you bought on finance you will have been expected to get fully comprehensive insurance, to cover exactly this situation.
Has it been declared (and therefore recorded) a write off, and if so, what category? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

If it's not paid off - finance outstanding - it's not yours to sell and if you were to do so there'd be a load of butt hurt waiting for you and the buyer.
If you have paid off the finance early then you'd get a few hundred if you were to break it - engine, swing arm, rear wheel, rear tyre etc. (I'd be reluctant to sell the front tyre for fear of comeback if it's been damaged and subsequently goes pop).
However....
IF somebody has pulled out on you AND if it's 100% not your fault and you claim from them, their insurers should pick up the repair bill. The fact it needs a new frame implies it's going to be a write off however, so MOST insurers would take the remains as part of the settlement.
So, before we go any deeper, what aren't you telling us?
If it's your fault, fair enough, we've all screwed up, just MTFU and say so!
Edit to say...
Are you considering buying the remains back from a third party insurer and after a idea of the possible value?
Second edit to ask...
If you are legally allowed to sell it either Paddy or I will give you a couple of hundred for it by the looks of it! |

I though if you had finance fixed to the bike you had to have fully comp insurance?
I know on my last bike it was in the T&Cs. ____________________ Like a Yorkie - I'm not for the girls |

Thanks go to OP, Sorry for jumping to conclusions!
Surely you've got your answer as to the value - £250 according to the insurer!
A Google search shows that a cat b write off can't be returned to the road, neither may it be sold on although the bits can be sold.
Legally you're to break it yourself.

The link says clearly the dvla will need proof of destruction? I know that not all the internet is true though, I may research more.
Even if it was allowed back on the road, as the insurance cartel would need to insure said vehicle, it'd be tricky I reckon - isn't one of the questions has the vehicle ever been a write off? I'm not sure if I'd fancy riding a bike that'd been a cat b myself. I suppose it'd depend on who'd done the work Id say. |
