Just wondering how common this is and whether or not its something i should maybe nip to the docs about...

Its been happening for a while now but its not something ive ever thought too much about before. Always put it down to overindulging on my dinner break.

I think it totally depends on what i eat and the intensity is different everyday but today for eg, i could have quite easily closed my eyes and nodded off 5 mins after my lunch which made me think its not quite normal. Today i had chicken sarnies, pack of crisps, a flake chocky bar and a yogurt.

The other day i had a bag of sweets after my lunch and It felt like i was fighting off a sleep which lasted about 10-15 minutes but even after than i still feel tired and lethargic and struggle to concentrate properly. At the time i just thought i was tired so nipped a grabbed a can of fizzy pop, which in hindsight is probably the worst thing to do.

After doing some googling it seems its related to low blood sugar levels and can lead to diabetes or other heart problems...

Probably a case of me being a hypochondriac but thought id throw this out there!

Normal, sugar crash. Especially if it's white bread. You're having high GI foods, and quite a lot of them with chocolate included. Try brown bread, yoghurt and fruit/nuts/seeds. Your normal lunch would probably be ok if you were shovelling cement all day, but I'm guessing you're at a desk?

Also the body uses a fair bit of energy during digestion.

I often make Friday a chippy day. Pie chips peas and curry and a buttered Exclamation BARM CAKE Exclamation ...guaranteed to mist up the van windows enough for a cat-nap. Thumbs Up

Barmcakes * sighs*. reminds me of my home town. Best served with a steamed meat pudding, chip, mushy pea and gravy filling - we stick owt in a butty where I'm from. I'm getting all misty eyed with nostalgia.
The local bread poduct here is a stottie cake, they're not the same.

Used to get the same.
If I drank a litre of chocolate milkshake after dinner I'd struggle to stay awake.
I got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and my blood suger levels was so high she said I should be extremely ill in hospital. She wasn't sure how I was getting up in the morning.

Only if it contains bacon - 'Bacon Bap' is acceptable.
Anything else; it's a (bread) roll.

Bap is Scotch innit.

Barmcake is acceptable for my area and fully understood. If I were to ask a lady in a shop if she had any nice baps for me, I'd expect a slap.

Yes.

You can probably skip the sawbones and go straight to the practice nurses. Tell them that you've been told[*] to get your fasting blood sugar tested. Get your cholesterol done while you're in there too, and your blood pressure.

Wait 3 bleeping weeks for ten bleeping people to shuffle the bleeping results around that should be bleeping available on the bleeping spot.

Insist on being told the actual numbers, not just "You're OK" or "You've got the diAIDSbetes". Write them down. Proceed from there.

[*] I've just told you.

Or have it done in my private lab and have the results in 3 hours, on a slow day. Wink

Roll - round bready thing
Bap - soft roll with a coating of flour
Bun - Cake or burger container
Butty - does not apply to the bread but more the filling, if the filling is copious it becomes a butty.

Dodgy nonsensical northen words...
Barmcake - bread isn't cake.
Cob - something which has/had corn on it, if it didn't then you are using the wrong word.

I'm only 26, 6 ft and 12 stone. You got any symptoms? Mine was constant thirst. 12/20 pints of water a day but I was consuming over 500 grams of suger a day.

Oi, southerner, a barmcake is specific to a specific north-westerly area. NOT all of the north!! Sheesh. Rolling Eyes

OP, it could also be a liver malfunction. My liver is one such malfunctioning liver. It does not like wheat, preservatives or sugar. Whatever is going on, its best to get it checked by a doctor. Thumbs Up
