I found a picture of this weird contraption. It's called a Velo-Solex. Why is the engine on the front? Anyone know anything about it, engine capacity etc? Would anyone consider it for commuting?

french thing

i think originally they just sold the engine bit that bolted on your existing bicycle as cheap basic transport, then went on to sell the whole thing as slightly less cheap basic transport

it drives directly onto the front tyre

Looks like it's a direct drive to the front wheel to assist with hill climbs etc. Probably not great for anything more than trips to the shops/mates houses, though would you be seen dead on one?!
You'll probably have big sales in Asian countries & cycling-aware countries like Holland.

Puts out about the same power as a human doing intense exercise, which is purely there to assist you really.

Thanks for that link Craig.

What's 0.58kW in ponies? It can only be one or two max.

But then it does do over 200 miles per gallon and reaches a top speed of 23mph Surprised

I like the search that says 'Searching for something odd' Laughing

For that price I'd rather have one of these :-

https://www.f2motorcycles.ltd.uk/f2images/e-bike%20images/electric%20bike%20tornado.jpg

£999, 25 mile range, 14 mph (real world, not manufacturers figures)

No tax, insurance, MOT, helmet.

For £500 you could buy a top notch light weight mountain bike for commuting, and have £499 left over to spend on more important things than motorised lazy machines Wink

If you are going to ride something with pedals, use the bloody pedals!

I can pedal faster than 14mph Razz You'd end up knackering the motor by spinning it too fast when you engage it Wink
