for the most part they're definitely not legal over here. The packaging should give some indication as to whether the specific lights are legal for road use. I know mine aren't. Then again, according to California law, neither am I most of the time. Wink Rolling Eyes

They're legal if by "blue Xenon lights" you mean like the ones in BMWs. And as far as I'm aware those are actually white; just that the material they pass through causes the light to appear blue-ish.

Any other kind of blue lights wouldn't be allowed on your machine though- unless you happen to be the Police, Ambulance or Fire Service.

Hope that helps.

I do not believe actual blue lights are legal.

Also, consider that it will make you look like an emergency vehicle, when behind other vehicles or going over bumps.

While this may seem a good thing for you, it can also be a bad thing for others. When there's a lot of blue lights around, it makes it much harder to tell the real thing from another person with illegal lights.

This not only effects those that being persecuted by them, but those are being helped by them as well. Other drivers being used to such things means they may ignore the real thing.

Personally I wouldn't feel there's much wrong taking a crow bar to the lights of vehicles with strong blue lights.

Why not look at some higher power normal coloured lights, though r6 lights aint that bad to start with.

It says they're D.O.T (Department of Transport) approved*, and lights not D.O.T approved are obviously illegal for road use (duh).

Logic would dictate those are legal - in the US. Not sure if the same standards apply over here in the UK, but as G said, I'd just get normal white ones.

If you really want to have a blue tint to your lights, then get OEM HID (High Intensity Discharge) Xenon lights, which are a lot whiter but appear blueish due to the blue highlights at the extremes of their high intensity spectrums.

*Unless there's some clever wording there and they are in fact illegal. Technically, nothing is D.O.T approved since bulbs have to be certified as complying by the manufacturer of the bulbs.

8500K is quite far away from pure white. I think pure white is closer to 5000-5500K. However, standard 'white' tungsten bulbs are more like 3000K (orange) anyway, so it's all a bit arbitrary. Rolling Eyes

On the blue xenon ones sold by halfords they say clearly on the packaging 'for show use only'.

I'd say they're illegal.

California has some strange laws as well as good ones. A lot of cases in Cali set the standards for the the legal system I believe.
I am following quite a high profile case that's going on there at the moment that if Marvel win will affect the whole computer and games industry where copyright is involved.
I hope they lose as I play the game they are suing plus basically you would need a license just to draw a character.
