Hi all! Wondered if anyone could recommend some waterproof boots (lower end of the price range preferred as I don't ride too often) which are slim fitting? I'm a size 42 or 43 and find most (mens) boots I've tried too deep at the ball of the foot. Most women's boots are too small in a 42. The Daytona Journey in a 42 fit well but I want a longer boot - and the Puma brutale were a good fit but I couldn't get the gtx ones. I'd be using them for touring.

Thanks in advance!

Kate

Hi Kate. Sorry, nothing specific and I hope you get a better answer, but the Dianese boots that I've tried have been slim. Painfully slim in one case, too narrow for my wife's delicate footsies, let alone mine. Might be worth a sniff look.

You are in London?

If so, you should get yourself over to the MCN show at Excel this month. There should be loads of different boots to try on in the trade stalls. Probably be able to get a deal on them as well.

Not sure what your real budget is, but if you are having trouble getting something that fits right consider Altberg. In London (where you appear to be), Silvermans at Mile End have some stock, otherwise you can order online or go up to Richmond (Yorkshire, not London) be measured at the factory and have a pair made to fit you.

A pair of Hogg All Weather cost £185, are properly waterproof and have a good sole on them for walking. They also come in 5 different widths as standard - though obviously Silvermans don't carry all variations.

Thanks all - really helpful! Very Happy

I am indeed in London and headed to the MCN show on the Saturday so hopefully will find something there, and will check out Altberg and Dainese boots as well.

Thanks again!

Bit of a gamble without trying them in person; but you might find these fit. I'm pretty skinny and find these are the most comfortable boots i've had so far - the foot area feels much more like a normal shoe than other bulkier pairs i've used in the past.

10% off with ''GHOSTBIKES15'' code, definately not bad for £55 Razz

I've had them about a year now in all weathers/touring/walking fair distances and haven't had any problems; been totally waterproof so far. I know some other people on here have mentioned having other models of black brand boots which have leaked but these seem fine.

Free postage (not sure about returns being free if they don't fit) but they've been good taking stuff back in the past from my experience Thumbs Up

+1 for these Thumbs Up

I bought a pair last year and they are mega value for money! Really nice fit and very well made for the money.

Also have the bonus of a built up heel for those with shorter inseams.

Ooodles of years ago, I asked this very question to a friend. I was told to go and get myself some gortex boot liners from the local army surplus store. Back then they cost £4 for the pair.

They fit in all boots, they are comfy and warm and WATERPROOF. They last for years and years and years and years...in fact they've outlasted two pairs of bike boots.

I still use them nowadays, I use them for camping...they are great to use as slippers when camping too. Thumbs Up

They are not that attractive, but I've owned and used them for a VERY long time. That's gotta be more cost effective than buying specific boots.

I have wide but very shallow feet, so finding boots that fit is hard. For cheap, I swap around insoles. For bikewear, altberg in the right width fitting, superfeet inserts and a further volume reduscing insert works for me. They are, however, big clumsy things that make regular sports touring boots feel like slippers and I can't swap boots without messing with the gear shift position. Fully waterproof to the point of riding about wearing a mid-price shelltex two-piece and gortex gloves during torrential rain and flooded roads with everything soaked apart from my feet.

But I've dropped the bike on my leg a few times and not had so much as a bruise or scuff to the boots. Took a chunk out of my leathers and had a massive bruise between my knee armour and where my boots began, but whatever cut my leathers and shredded my waterproofs merely scratched my boots. Altbergs are proper tough touring boots. I have the now discontinued clubman classics.

See, now this is how threads get de-railed.

What, by my secret desire to be a crash test dummy, leaf mulch being my personal kryptonite, my apparent inability to use a side stand, or by reporting that my boots did the intended job? Or did I just fail to observe we are now posting fetishwear that is probably not that protective?

Sidi B2 Goretex. You'll pay lots for them but they are slim fitting, so slim in fact I had to order 1 and a half sizes up. Waterproof, very. I've worn them in torrential rain and my feet were the only part of me still dry. Cold but dry.
