Hey bcf, I've been looking at getting a race exhaust for my CBR 125 R and I was just wondering what you'd suggest, I have my eye on an akropovic but it's pricey as hell.

No.

It really is not worth it.

Just ask yourself;

-Will there be a benefit to performance? The answer is no.
-Will it make more noise? Maybe, but so will drilling out your baffles.

Conclusion, keep the money in the bank til you get a bike that will benefit from a "race exhaust".

Well, "worth it" is a relative concern that only you can truly answer. What's the value to you of drawing attention to yourself when you're riding a small slow bike? Does that exceed the cost of the exhaust?

You will not notice any performance benefits from the exhaust, if that's the question you're asking. It'll purely be noise.

(I have an akra slipon on my SH. Purely for noise.)

If you are going to be entering it in a race, and you won't win the race without the Akrapovic system, then it would probably be worth it, depending on the prize money.

IMO, you need to be maintaining what you've got before trying to make it faster.

Example, incorrectly tensioned and poorly lubricated chain is likely to sap more rear wheel power than any flashy exhaust will give that engine in the first place Laughing Thumbs Up

Waste of money, will possibly make your engine run worse and will definitely get you terrible MPG.

Au contraire, I rarely noticed less mpg, just more noise on my CBR with a Venom exhaust, came with it sir.

I still live in the 80's and early 90's, and race exhausts tended to do that back in the day.
I guess, modern DFi units with O2 sensors, etc. can cope with the open exhaust on their own. Smile

But, I still wouldn't get an open exhaust for a 125cc single cylinder four stroke. I'd feel way too stupid going 25mph with that kind of noise. Thumbs Down

It'd also be dangerous: Pedestrians would step off the pavement without looking assuming the noise was a Council worker's leaf blower.

I don't want it for noise, I just ain't keen on the standard exhaust and have heard it can increase performance. But yeah sounds like I'll just put the cash in the A2 fund instead!

It won't give performance, however an A2 licence and a Bandit will.

I'm probably going to keep the Cbr until the finance is paid off, Which is a long while. But I'll go for my A2 hopefully this year.

Has this taken over from the word "mighty" that everyone was using a couple of years back. Suddenly at the end of 2014 everything looks or sounds "boss".

Use the money to pay finance off or take your test?

If you want the main benefits of an Akrapovic can, get or make an Akrapovic badge for your current one.

If you want it louder, take out the baffles.

It'll still be a slow commuter, whatever.
