 |
|
Hi
First off, I'm an idiot. Probably a squid for a rider too, even when fully geared up. Have been knocked off many a times, even though the 3rd party insurer accepted liability. Still, I don't learn my lesson. I like to get back on two insanely fast wheels and do it all over again.
New predicament - Gixxer thou (2004/5), or the pre 2008 Hayabusa?
Not a skilled rider, just like the blast on open motorways. Bit of a wuss for comfort, but have sat on the thou and it seemed good enough. Apparently the hayabusa is more comfortable two up (not that I have a lady at present but you never know...), but the thou handles sublimely in comparison (cornering).
Live in London, so ride calmly through city streets/commute, but also zip on the dual carriageways and motorway trips to the coast to visit buddies. Like the thou for the inadvertent power-wheelies when accelerating. Don't know much about the busa but for the reputed comfort and top-end. Do they power-wheelie too? yes, I am an idiot of a squid rider.
I am interested in your opinions of the two machines. Also, how are they on fuel consumption?

'Busa is heavy as Fuuaarrrk.
Gixxer will handle much better.
If you're not that good a rider get a 600?
Teach yourself by riding.
Gixxer 1000 is basically the ultimate commuter bike though. ____________________ Journalist, student, egotist.

In my eyes the biggest thing that lets the Busa down is it's bodywork. It's a bit marmite in the looks department. ____________________ I want your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle.

No top speed limiter on a pre-2001 'busa. Basically look at the clocks, if they go to 220 it's not limited. None of the UK models are restricted.
The GSXR is lighter, better handling, tighter steering, better braked and has more cool factor amongst your peers than the 'busa. The bigger bike has a huge well of mid-range torque though and it's iconic status as a serious land-missile. If you intend commuting it I'd go for the GSXR because filtering on the 'busa is hard work with it's long wheelbase and limited steering lock. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

I loved the engine on my busa, the riding position not so much. It seems a bit cramped for a big bike and hurt my knees after a while. I cured that by fitting Gilles rear sets though. It certainly was comfy for long distances after that and it's a very easy bike to ride.
I toured all over Europe on mine with few problems except for tyre wear, the original Bridgstones were crap and lasted hours (so it seemed). That was improved by fitting Avon Storms.

It wasn't a bike I'd want to commute on, too long poor turning circle. It's a very low bike though, so if you have short legs it won't be a problem.
The Tocico six pots are a known weak point if you don't keep on top of the maintenance.
Would i have another? If I was younger I'd love one of the Mk2's in blue with gold wheels as below.
but I don't think my body is up to that abuse now. :lol:https://cache4.pakwheels.com/ad_pictures/137/suzuki-hayabusa-2009-1370472.jpg ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |
