Sounds like someone has put just water in the cooling system, and as you would expect, it has started rotting the engine away from the inside.

Flush it through with clean water until all the black stuff has gone, then drain and refill with the recommended mixture of anti-freeze, and hope you caught it in time.

Keep some of the mixture to one side, and only use this for topping-up when needed.

My moneys on head gasket/cracked cylinder.

Two stroke oil is black when it's been through the engine and set on fire and all sorts. When my CR head gasket failed, there was black sludge dripping down the side of the cylinder.

Is there any excessive white smoking, power loss or overheating?

Itll be a dead headgasket.
