Hello BCF

I'm after a DAB radio for my bedroom, not after music festival sound quality but nor do I want a Pringle can.

Can anyone recommend a decent DAB Radio or even ones to avoid?
I'm suprised how expensive DAB radios still are Shocked
Ideally after a DAB clock radio ... Bluetooth would be nice.

Cheers

There is a site someplace where you can check coverage, would recommend doing so as it is a trifle annoying forking out on a DAB radio and then finding it'll only work on FM setting. DAB coverage is not as extensive as 'they' would like you to believe!!!

We've a Pure Evoke 2S. Lovely sound, but a bit overkill seeing as I only really listen to Radio 2 and Absolute 80s. Would be better to just have a decent speaker dock for the phone and stream it from there.

Presumably you mean there are areas with no service? One of the joys of DAB is that your receiver will either pick it up or it won't (so either clear as a bell or just a little message saying 'no service) unlike AM/FM where you might receive a signal but there may be interference.

I don't get interference as in hiss or static, what I get is a warbled output sometimes , as the signal error ratio increases and decreases,

Nope, never had that. It either would receive clearly or point me rather haughtily to the fm channels

DAB....good when it gets a signal, but when it doesn't fcukin annoying Evil or Very Mad

you can't fine tune it like the old analogue radios
no twiddle / turn radio until sound improves....

oh no....move radio aerial and sound just stops.....so you leave it until it then starts to retune, THEN it plays sounds again (maybe) so you move radio / aerial to improve sound once more......aagghhh !!

I bought one of these last year
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Panasonic-SC-HC19EB-K-Micro-Hi-Fi-System-2ch-Output-CD-Playback-FM-Radio-Tuner-/321635944999?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4ae2ff0a27

Its compact and I cant fault the DAB radio
It also has FM radio as well plus an
ipod dock and USB too and it plays mp3s

My gripe is the weedy side scrolling feckin display !
Ok for radio but shite when you want to select from mp3 tracks

My point?
I suggest you consider if the type of display the device has
will be Ok for the use you want it for or an annoyance

I'd find something which streams from the internet instead. DAB is a solution looking for a problem. It should have died years ago, but hasn't because it's been propped up by the BBC

An internet radio is better if you have a decent wi fi signal.
I got one at xmas for my mrs and it's brilliant.
I was listening to the Detroit Police despatcher a few nights ago on
one of the 100+ scanner frequencies.
Was listening to a Bahamas Radio station on Christmas day when we fired it up.
It also has DAB as well as DAB+ and I've hardly used those functions.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Portable-DAB-DAB-FM-Radio-MP3-Recording-Micro-SD-Player-with-USB-Charging-/311077213758?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item486da5963e

I got given one of these recently, sounds pretty good, reception could be better on the move thoug as its all or nothing like digital tv, it only really has a few dedicated stations that are not on fm (fm seems to have more small/ regional stations)

You can record to sd from the fm and the dab and get about 7hour battery life at full volume, too easy to turn on/off in your pocket so you end up accidentally turning it back on and draining the battery.

I run it through my pc's mic/ line in out to the 5.1 surround (actually fills all channels) or via the aux in on stereo at home and can take it out on the bike or plug it into a car head unit if i need too.

A lot of the big stations have live internet streams and you can get kodi/xbmc to stream most everything else, i sometimes use the older version of amp3 to listen to internet streams, the channel list isn't updated anymore aparently but you can add new ones manually. it does have the beneft of upmixing for my surround speakers though.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181617794603?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT#ht_1406wt_1399

My granddad has one of these he reckons you get a bit of a treble hiss on recording from it but overall he likes it.

you can fing cheaper ones but not many allow for recording and if you already have a decent audio set up all you really want is a dab reciever.

I needed a decent DAB recording radio (like to have a library of stuff to take with me when touring).

So, bought this a couple of days ago and it's a good piece of kit. Only downside seems to be that it automatically records on MP2. So far, I can play the recordings back on the radio or my computer but might have to convert files to play on my MP3 player (can't seem to work that one out at the moment).

Anyway, £60 delivered is the best price that I found although someone mentioned that you can get the same radio on ebay for £50.

the two I linked records in mp3 but the small one wont split or label the tracks (not sure on the big one), you just end up with one file for each session of recording.

It's fine if you know something good is coming on (live broadcast set or something) as you can record the whole lot and edit it later, it does have a delay when you hit record before it is ready to start so sometimes you miss a bit of the track.

aimp3's radio record function will split the tracks and label them but sometimes it will clip the front or end of the tracks so you might have the very end of one track at the start of another.

I don't know if you have found a dab radio yet but my granddad is looking to sell his non recordable dab radio.

It is only a tevion portable dab/fm radio it is light wood and silver colour with battery and mains power. sounds alright and has headphone and line outputs he is looking for about £25.

The line out is a fixed volume/gain output, the built in speakers work in tandem with the line out so you can listen to it connected to an amp or separately without having to pull the wires.

The headphone output is volume adjustable but it shuts of the front speakers when you use it.

As above - if you've got decent internet, might as well just use internet radio. For which any smart phone is fine - just need appropriate speakers.

I didn't believe it when it said our postcode has no service, as we can almost see Bilsdale transmitter - but builders were here recently and their new Makita one found nothing.
