Right I'm having a argument with Dom:
I think that If you redline a RS125 in 6th gear it will be going at the bikes top speed, If it was restricted it wouldnt redline in 6th? and IF It did then it would be going the same speed as one not restricted?
Hope you understand what I mean.
So whats the case? Can you redline a restricted rs125 in 6th and still be doing only 75. |

All I can say is when we were on a rideout yesterday I looked at my rev counter and it was just over the redline, so I backed off a bit. And that was at a piddly 75 odd. Course that's a guess, since my speedo had stopped working by then. |

Hi
Whatever power the engine puts out, a particular bike will do the same speed in the same gear at the same revs unless you change the gearing.
There is the exception of an automatic gearbox where this is not true, and also with a manual where the clutch is slipping.
For my RS125 the red line is at 10750rpm, and it is geared for an indicated 10mph / 1000rpm so it would be indicating 107mph. Most I have ever had out of mine was an indicated 115mph, at which point it was 750rpm into the red line in top gear. By the way, it has never been restricted .
Getting an RS to hit the red line in top at (say) 80 would mean adding about 10 teeth to the rear sprocket.
All the best

Maybe you were just in 5th gear not 6th.
Or you have a severely downgeared RS125.
Or your rev counter/speedo is broken. ____________________ Yamaha SZR660 Caution to the wind, the throttle pinned! |

Lol, oh dear - perhaps by that point in the ride I'd spent so long slinging my arse off the bike around corners and desparately trying to overtake queues of lorries I'd totally lost the plot.
I must admit I'm still a bit confused by it all cause I've definitely had 10k in top gear out of it (11k redline on mine) without doing de-restricted speeds, which is confusing given that I thought the restricted bikes levelled off power-wise over about 8500rpm. Also I was definitely doing around 70mph odd at the time and I doubt it's capable of that in 5th, even if it is at the redline. |

Hi
Assuming the gearing is standard and you were no slipping the clutch, then at 10k in top you were doing 100mph (or as near as matters).
Tends to suggest that either you were not in top or the bike is derestricted.
With the clutch not slipping there is a fixed ratio between revs and speed, and this certainly does not change when you derestrict the bike.
All the best

Yeah as stated above there are only a few possible explanations:
1) The clutch was slipping (lever adjusted too far out?)
2) The gearing is dramatically altered (check your sprocket sizes compared to the manual)
3) Your speedo is broke
4) Your tacho is broke
5) You werent in top gear ____________________ Yamaha SZR660 Caution to the wind, the throttle pinned! |
