 |
|
Hi all.
Currently in the process of purchasing a house, at the very beginning stages.
It's a mid-terrace house hidden away in a cul-de-sac road. The place has two car parking spaces, one in front of the front door and the other just a few metres away in the corner between the neighbour's car and a hedge running parallel to the house.
Anyway - what I was thinking of doing was erecting (oo-er) some type of bike shed in the corner space. It's literally in the corner:

How do you think, given that this is allocated and numbered parking (it has the house number on a sign on the fencing behind the space, behind the greenery), it would be with wanting to put a structure to house a motorbike on it?
On the legal side of things, I haven't seen the house deeds etc just yet, but have been told that space belongs to the house so is essentially part of our driveway. I'm sure it would be out of courtesy to the neighbours though to ask before we do put anything semi-permanent there....
Has anyone had any experience with this sort of thing at all? thanks ____________________ Yamaha RXS 100 > Honda CD 250 > Honda Hornet 600 > Honda CBR 600RR > Yamaha RXS 100 > Kawasaki ZX6R J2 > Yamaha FZ1 |

What about an enclosed trailer? That would be a more normal kind of thing to keep in a parking space. Put it up on blocks with the wheels off.
I have a mate who did this with a caravan in his back garden when he couldn't get permission to build a garage. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

If you cut back the greenery and stick it as far in the corner as you can I wouldn't regard it as a problem if it was me.
Check the deeds though. Make sure it IS yours and make sure there are no covenants dictating what you can or can't do.
My place is an ex council property and has a covenant that I can't park a caravan or boat on the drive ____________________ Victory Cross Country American tractor. |

Of course the other problem is that would be a thief magnet round my way. Locked shed out of view of the house, wouldn't last a week. ____________________ Victory Cross Country American tractor. |

Pointless speculation is pointless without the docs.
A number on a wall is just that, it doesn't create ownership, and the seller or their agent may be mistaken - or 'mistaken' - and that could just be free-for-all common parking.
I mention this because my mother bought a house with an "allocated" space that turned out to be nothing of the sort when we looked into it. We installed a fold-down bollard anyway because it's more fun to stonewall the Cooncil than t'other way around. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Gotch'ya.
Yes, will get the deeds checked. It should come with the house, so yes... will look into it for sure.
It's a very, very quiet cul-de-sac area hidden away, with the house and driveway not in view from the road at all. The space is pretty much opposite the front door so it's in view of the house, could easily wire up a CCTV camera to front of the house to oversee it. Spare room overlooks the front too.
Pretty confident it's a safe location even with the bike under a cover, but would be nice to have it properly protected from the elements! The area is Borehamwood if anyone's interested. The trouble with a trailer with the wheels off is that trailer wheels are cheap to buy. So they measure up one night and then come back the next week and tow it away
So perhaps look at removing the axle or the drawbar.
But to be honest if one of my neighbours left a fucked out old trailer with no wheels on their drive/ in a shared parking area I'd set fire to the fucking thing. |
