 |
|
I didn't post about it last month but my 2-year restriction is up, and I half expected an updated licence to plop onto my doormat - all I've had in a brown envelope is the usual TV licence threat though.
Checking the licence card I do have, it shows the '=<25KW' condition all the way up to 2043. I imagine there's a database which shows I'm unrestricted but I'd rather have this shown on my licence itself.
(Time passes while I dig out paper counterpart and check Gov's website)
Checking the direct.gov.uk site doesn't help much although it does confirm the lack of restriction now within category A. I remember seeing a thread with some info but it's lost in the mists of time now.
So.. (and TLDR) - 25KW restriction is up - do I pretend I lost my licence card to get an updated one? ____________________ If you can keep your head when all about you

I didn't think it was needed to send it off for updating, the restriction merely expires but your licence is current.
your paper counterpart should show that the restriction expires and the date.
If you send it back for updating you'll get a licence from this year as your restricted period apparently doesn't count as full license to the DVLA ____________________ Looking to pass your CBT / Bike tests in Bury Lancashire? try www.focusridertraining.co.uk Would recommend.

Hmm, so perhaps a short while sitting in a cop car while Mr Plod checks his system vs. insurance problems with no claims and licence start date mismatch?
It might be nice to take the weight off for a few minutes
Hang on, my licence goes from when I passed mod 2, but my no claims goes from when I did my CBT and got a bike in the first place.
Maybe I can get an updated licence and then smash in to something - sorted! ____________________ If you can keep your head when all about you

people have had insurance revoked for incorrect dates as some insurance companies see it as the date you did the test, others the date your restriction expired, the ombudsman agrees with the latter and the DVLA are not aware of a problem.

In the case of eBike, who make a distinction between the various license classes.
Most insurers just ask us whether we have "provisional" or "full", because they are idiots. By that definition, A1, A<=25, A2 and A aren't provisional, so what are they?
Thing is, some of us are being graciously granted A from 2 years after we passed our tests, some are being gifted it from the test pass date. Go by what the gov.uk site says, no need to get another copy of your license. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

When it came time for me to update my licence categories after the 2 year period, I couldn't find my photocard or couterpart anywhere so I sent off the form stating they'd gone missing.
After I got my new licence card from the DVLA and checked everything on it was correct I manged to find the originals again though, they were in my vehicle documents folder all along...
Can't think how I managed to miss them in there but oh well. ____________________ 2007 BMW R1200R: On road

Be warned...
If you send yours in to be updated... It will come back with a pass date 2 years after you actually passed your test
Passed my A2 in 2010.. when i became unrestricted in 2012 and sent my card in for updating, the new card came back saying i'd only held a license since 2012
Still have my Pass certificate if anyone wants to argue it though ____________________ A2 Passed 18/6/10 |

Maybe. Mine's like that, and I passed in 2010 as well.
However, a couple of folk have said that with more recent passes they're being gifted A from the pass date rather than 2 years afterwards.
Amusingly, this gives them longer entitlement duration even though they passed later. Well, it's probably amusing for them. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Didn't send my license off to get an unrestricted one before I ditched my bike, so I had the <25kW on the back of my card. Of course then I had to explain the restriction laws to the traffic plod who appeared whilst I was waiting for the ambulance.
Got a producer, sent off all my "out of date" paperwork and got a letter back 4 weeks later saying no further action. I can only assume the two who appeared on site actually did some research or talked to someone higher up who actually knows what they're doing. |

Ive been off my restriction for years now and never updated it.
I fear that I will lose all entitlement if I do send it away.
It has never caused a problem with stop checks. ____________________ Suzuki GT250 x7------- Fazer 600------CB250RS------Aprilia Rally 70----- Bandit 600
