Funnily enough I was reading something on't'internet the other day that was supposedly showing redacted FBI documents that said that Hitler ended his days in Argentina and showed a photo of someone who looked very much like an older Adolph. All the major powers knew about this, aided his passage to Argentina and have been complicit in the cover up ever since.

Forgot to add that I have heard of that documentary but have not seen it. I have also heard testimony from seemingly credible people, some of them Jewish, that the holocaust was not as it is portrayed.
As time passes no doubt new information will come into the public domain which will cause a revision of the events of this period. Can't see it happening in my lifetime though.
Before anyone sreams anti-semitism at me, I might be Jewish myself.

Am I to conclude that (forgetting a small thing like the holocaust) Adolf was just a misunderstood bloke and that he was just trying to get a few Europeans to see his point of view by running amok in Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Poland, the Netherlands, France, the Baltic, North Africa, etc, etc? Poor little Adolf Rolling Eyes

Edit: the FBI 'proof' in the above link has a passage in it that says 'information obtained....by.... unable to be verified'. Conclusive proof then!! Laughing

@ Mentalboy.

Noone is saying that Hitler was a saint but all we have heard is one side of the story- ours,"the winners". The thing is though since WW2 we have been constantly fed propaganda which we swallow unquestioningly.
Take ISIS for example, there are many reputable sources, some from within the US government itself, stating that ISIS have been funded and trained by the CIA in Jordanian training camps. Do a search for the Project for the New American Century, dig a little deeper than just the official line and it may give you some more insight and understanding about what's going on in the MiddleEast.
Yes it might seem like tinfoil but there is no doubt that we are being lied to and if you critically analyse the information then some of the tinfoil makes sense.

The victors always write history, anyone who disputes that is daft.
Nor do I think that anybody believes that governments are fully open about their political dealings, either domestically or internationally.

I was under the impression that ISIS gained so much power so quickly was because of Western support given to them when Assad was considered the most dangerous threat on the planet - is there some other view? Just because the collective 'we' put them there doesn't make them any better though.

I think I'm missing your point somewhere in there though.

I always find it somewhat ironic that the vehicle most associated with hippie, green types (the VW Beetle) was a pet project of Mr Hitler's, even to the extent that his drawings for it's design were reflected in the final outcome.

I think most of Germany will have said something by now, since it's their own reputation at stake. Yet most of them seem happy enough to say, "Yes it was pretty bad, sorry about that."

I think I'll settle with it being another generic war of continental control.

Germany wanted more power, the rest didn't like it, so a huge war started.

-------

Regarding how we only know what our history books tell us:

An American friend of mine was always taught that the Pearl Harbour attacks were a surprise that no-one was ready for.

He went to Japan recently and discovered their version of events goes like this:
Japan - "Hey America, get civilians out of Pearl Harbour because we're coming to bomb it."
USA - "Hah, empty threats, piss off."
REPEAT x 10 over a few months.
Japan then bombs Pearl Harbour.

So, who knows the real truth..!!

Yup, uppity little crayon muncher. Didn't he know that carving out empires, changing regimes and stabilising regions is an adventure best left to Britannia and her Colonies? We were just on a temporary break.

I have always thought the "england got involved to save poor liddle Poland" as taught in schools is a load of shite.

Germany and Russia had already agreed on how to split up poland, and launched a simultaneous invasion, meeting up in the middle. Not to mention the murder of all those Polish officers in Katyn by Russians.

Yet we didn't go to war with Russia did we? Only ze germans...

I don't know why Hitler is seen as the big bad guy, his kill count is way below Stalin or Mao. I think he was dickhead on an ego trip, esp the way he disregarded pretty much all his senior military staff on how to fight the war and forced them into retard-tier actions like Kursk, or forcing divisions to hold ground and be annihilated rather than a defence in depth.

Why not? Look at the history of the world and what Hitler was doing was nothing new. Hitler was a megalomaniac. He was also a fantastic speaker, ruthless tactician and as a result swept across a huge area of Europe before attacking Russia, which ultimately was his undoing. Specifically The Battle Of Stalingrad. He swept his Germanic nation along in a tidal wave of support and if he had won at Stalingrad I believe the world would be a different place.

It was nothing but conquest. Much the same as the various ones history has already seen. Ghengis Khan, Alex the Great, Tamerlane, Attila the Hun, The Romans, We could go on but you get the idea.

What made it seem so bad is there were a lot more people in the world and the weaponry was a lot more advanced. Yes Hitler had some radical ideas but lets face it, so did the Romans who slaughtered thousands for refusing to convert to Christianity when they converted themselves. What difference was slaughtering tens of thousands with gas compared to tens of thousands with swords and crosses? Dead is dead. The fact that Hitler seemed to do it wholesale makes him worse.

The oddest thing about it all, is Hitler did not do any of it for religion, which seems to be a major factor in any wars through history, including current wars. Hitler wanted a single world where everyone was equal (except those who were more equal of course). He was so far removed from what we know as a free world today he even made communism look attractive.

Was he a bad man? Very probably in todays world. Was he a misguided, miss understood genius? Most defiantly. Was he evil? No. He done what he believed in and a nation followed him. That does not make him evil. His methods were evil, but he stuck to his beliefs and believed he was making a better world for his people and they believed it too.

The winner will always write history to suit itself.

Dropping the atomic bombs on Japan shortened the war according to the Yanks, maybe it did but the second one was just pure vindictivness.

Dresden bombings in February 1945 - Why, the war was won, why kill thousand of civilians for no reason.

One of the charges against Hermann Goering at Nuremburg was 'Waging a war of agression' including the indicriminate bombing of civilian population centres.

'Bomber' Harris got medals for the same thing.

But that's war. Thumbs Up

As I see it, Adolf was just a figure that did the PR for the Nazi party and movement. Read something about the trials in Nuremberg (1945-1946). You are going to find out, who the real criminals behind all the bad Nazi stuff were. Hitler in his last weeks/months was a mentally ill person and all the ideas to clean the germanic race and conquer the world were put in his mind by his fellow Nazi mates.
Hitler's personal doctor was doing experiments on him, not only with methamphetamine but also with other substances. I mean, he was a small dark haired, brown eyed leader of the Aryan race. It's just like if today, the president Jacob Zuma, of the South Africa fought for getting rid of black people and all the white people powered by the cult would worship him.

Also, look at the WW2 winners, Stalin killed, allegedly, 60 million of people, and he was not high when he ordered his troops to burn out Jewish villages, to shoot all the high rank officers, to starve the Ukraine people that did not want to give the communist party their land and so on. USA is a story on its own, also the France and Belgium with their colonies in Africa, when they provoked massacres and genocide of civilians, one example for them all, Rwanda (1994), and I could go on.

The UK, well, let's not go there again.

EDIT: I almost forgot, the big Trial was based on the good old: ''we won so feck you'' principle. This was definitely not a fair trial. The accusations made by the winners were based on retroactivity which is and was unacceptable even back then. Nullum crimen sine lege, non in Germania, I guess.

TL; DR, Hitler was high, mentally ill puppet of the Third Reich. What's your excuse, allied forces? Thinking

Stalin was misunderstood as well.....

He was just having a bad day, said to his teddy bear - 'won't somebody rid me of these trouble makers. Beria overheard him and the rest is history! Whistle
