How hard is it to fit a new tyre???

Rang local garage earlier told his machine had packed in and would have yo do it by hand would cost an hours labour and told me at least £25
Tyre only cost £35 an me22 Metzler front tyre.
I think that's pretty dear and wondered if I could do it myself .I have a free afternoon this weekend.

Its a YBR custom
Tyre is 3.00 x 18

Easy enough with decent levers.

I get mine changed for £5 per loose wheel.

Is it easy to remove front wheel I do have disc brakes on the front

Front wheel easy just bolt .
Came apart easy
Speedo cable was tight

You can take the caliper off, it'll be way easier to re-fit the wheel again.

As said, easy once you've broken the bead to get the old one off
and you have decent tyre irons and protect the rims.
I used to jack my old van up then drop the pin hitch to break the bead on
worn out tyres.
I suggest you inspect the rim before fitting the new tyre in case it has any
digs or oxidisation/crust to prevent you getting a good seal on the new one.
In place of the proper stuff, washing up liquid helps to slip the new tyre on.
Check you have the direction of rotation correct !

There are rumours I've often used the aerosol and lighter trick to get the new tyres to bead in prior to inflation.
No one saw me do, it you cant prove nuffin

FML bike shop I went to with wheel shut early so had a drive to a local tyre place who did it manually
Only charged me a fiver but only just got home checked next to bike and its the wrong way..
My fault will visit him tomorrow

He started off saying bike tyres are easy took him best part of ten minutes poor lad
Well guess I've learnt my lesson

If you watch someone doing it manually you should spot some tips for trying yourself.
I usually do my own but tyres have tended to get very low profile - minimal sidewall - and breaking the bead is increasing difficult but not been beat yet.

It can be done but it is a CUNT of a job, I pay someone to do it every time now.

Tyres right way round now
I'm such a knob

Put tyre back on bike
And brakes don't feel as responsive
Like I do eventually stop
Or do I have to wear tyres in a few miles
Or am I being a wimp

Late I know, but I've often put some masking tape on the wheel and used a black marker pen to add an arrow
showing the direction of rotation just to avoid mistakes later.
Especially if taking it to a shop
