GoPro users (on bike, cycle, car, helmet whatever)

Ok I'm not sure where to put this, could be here, geek zone, random, bike vids etc

Recently bought a GoPro 4 Silver (you may recall my post in here), it's arrived, memory card has arrived, now I need/would like to use it.

It only came with the standard mounts, stickers and 3 point arm iirc, not a lot for all it's potential.

So i've been searching and came across the likes of

Can anyone recommend any similar, or better value for money accessory packs?

Or is the one linked overkill? I'll probably not use half of it but then buying some of the bits separately mounts up to the same cost as all that lot.

Is the suction mount from GoPro any better than generic ones?

I have a generic suction mount and mounted it to my car whilst in Germany. Held on at 110MPH.

The GoPro suction cup is good for 160 (indicated) I can confirm. Says tested at 150+.

I tend to tie it to something as well... Just in case.

I mount it to my helmet, my tank or my fairings with that. Bang on every time. We put it on my mate's car sometimes too.

Putting it on your helmet can cause some heavy pulling from the wind.

Is that suction cupped to your fairing?

The flex in the plastic not causing any problems?

Might get a proper suction mount and cheap other stuff for now.

I've got a hero 2 i've had a couple years but rarely had the chance to use. i've found that the clip mounts work well but i put one on my helmet and it dragged a lot.

The suction cup is pretty impressive though, and i'll likely use it more in the summer this year.

It's worth double checking the suction mount, this is what happens when you don't. It got run over by a lorry. I now double check everytime I attach it to the bike. Saying that I still don't use a tether.

L shaped arm then stick it to the side of your hat. I mount mine like this for commuting. Was about a fiver on ebay

Yeah, it was my fault rather than the suction cup. The surface I put it on had a slight curve and I didn't double check it was on properly before I rode off. On a decent surface, they're very secure.

Tethering will be used.

Bought the Amazon kit as its next day delivery for me, if the suction cup is poor I'll get a proper one.

For shots from the side of a car would you mount of the body work or glass with long bars?

For tethering consider using some nylon coated stainless steel sea fishing lures, you can fix the loop through the camera case base screw, leaving a wire clip to attach to or loop round a solid object, or helmet buckle. So if the GP brackets snap the tether is connected to the nearest point to the camera

I use 12"/18" "AFW brand" bleeding leaders with 30lbs breaking strain that I got on eBay for a few quid

Mine, suction mounted to the windscreen of the SJ. Gets battered off tree branches and everything. Hangs in there every time!
And if it does come off, I have it tied up with a landyard to something solid on the truck.

RAM mount on handle bars for me. I occasionally turn it the other way to have some footage of the rider.

A big bundle of stuff has arrived (loving Amazon Prime at the mo), suction mount seems ok didn't pull off my desk though one of the screws doesn't feel like it gets really tight, something to work on tonight.

Got one of these thingies with my bullet camera.

Clamps onto the end of the bars quite nicely, good stable platform for smooth footage too, shame the camera is a bit of a pig, but then again, for £30 off of e-bay, what can you expect.

Standard fittings and threads on it, so when i get round to getting a decent camera, it'll fit on nicely.

Would it be feasible to mount a GoPro to the centre of the bars? To me this seems the most logical place to put it, with the lens just poking above the front screen so when you watch the footage it's like you're on the bike with your chin over the tank. I'm assuming dampening would be needed if it's possible.
