Did anyone see the segment on cycling in London on C4 news last night? I know John Snow is a cyclist and he openly supports cycling issues but I thought it was such a biased report. There was no attempt to include the views of the other two wheeled road users, the tax paying trained and licensed ones. I am thinking of emailing C4 News about the matter. Any thoughts on what points to bring up?

Nothing to add, apart from cry-in is my new favourite phrase, not sure if it will be able to top butthurt as my most used phrase i've learnt from the internet...but I'll try Smile

Then we can assume you wont mind your taxes paying for a cycle registration and compulsory basic training system to be put in place.

You pay no specific tax beyond VAT associated with using a bicycle on the roads though.

It would be good thing though if C4 spoke with someone who has the benefit of motorcycle experience as well as cycles.

Motorcycle - Taxed.

Car - Taxed.

My income - Taxed at 40% for a very large proportion of it.

Council tax. Band D. And I live alone.

Like I say. I pay more tax than you.

Operable word being "associated". So that tax. The one cyclists don't pay for the privilege of taking a vehicle on the road network.

That's because bicycles don't release Co2, and are therefore tax exempt.
However, i think i know a way around the exemption!

Due to increased respiration rates as a result of cycling, and therefore increased released of Co2 as a by-product of said respiration, cyclists should be made to wear and breathe from oxygen tanks so as to ensure they have paid for the extra air they consume, and thusly, pay for the extra Co2 they release.

Well given the thread is about the editorial choices of an independent television news channel the question of who does or doesn't pay tax or how much they pay is moot.

Cyclist don't pay road tax (we'll ignore the fact that it's not actually called road tax) therefore they shouldn't be allowed to use the roads?

Quite the opposite. Booze hawk made the point that cyclists don't pay for the roads. I was pointing out that as most of the money used for roads is raised from council and income tax, as well as the fact that most cyclists also own a taxed motor vehicle, his statement was a touch retarded.

Maybe I was being too subtle and you missed it Laughing

I then made the point that there is a wide selection of motor vehicles now available that don't pay tax, but people don't refer to them as 'non contributers' but it seems you missed that too.

I thought this thread might touch on things like how the money that should be used to fix back roads that are potholed and patched to death isn't going where it should and how dangerous that is for cyclists as well as motorcyclists, but I guess it's just a "who pays more tax in general" contest right now. Very Happy
