Thinking of getting this Puig screen for my Bandit as it's the only fly screen I like the look of. After a recent long motorway journey, I'd really like a screen.
My question is, how much of a difference would a small screen like that make?

Good ones do reduce the pressure and buffeting a fair bit.

It depends on the bike, the individual screen and your height and riding position. You may find it works, or you may find the air is directed right at your chest/chin.

Going from the standard screen on mine, to a taller screen made a massive difference to me, so I guess any screen would be better than nothing - if it helps to keep the wind pressure off your chest and reduce wind noise.

Defo depends on height of screen and your height. The standard hornet one i got directed the wind straight at my forehead at 80mph and gave me neck ache. So took it off and get wind blast all over now but its much more manageable

I put one on a gs500 when I had one about 500 years ago. You had to lay down on the tank to get out of the way of the wind.
Sat upright can't say I remember it having much effect.

The screen I had wasn't massive but bigger than what I have on my ZED which does pretty much nothing.

I had the same on on the naked B6 that I had, like Iain I felt it made a great difference at motorway sppeds.
Took out most of the wind buffering.
But I'm not tall, so would depend on you a bit as well.

I think there are a few small flyscreens that look ok on naked bikes, how much effect they have I'm dubious of though.

I think the whole fun of a big naked bike is having something with the power and grunt to push through the air at 145mph with the owner sat bolt upright and hanging on hard through the wind blast!

That is what I would say makes a hard biker, or one with a strong neck! Laughing

Oh and leather jacket, jeans, and dark visor on a Simpson bandit lid, and bodybuilders gym membership should be mandatory for such bikers too!

Presumably not on public roads or in remote areas? Wink

Agree
I fitted a screen to a bike prior to riding up to Edinburgh thinking it would make the long motoway ride more comfy, but the increased wind and noise directed at my head was horrendous.

I fitted a Puig fly screen to my XJ6 last year. It made rides on faster roads - national speed limit and motorway, much more comfortable.
I felt like a sail when I was riding the 600 after my 125.
There's no real weather protection if it rains, but it does keep a lot of wind off the chest and face.
Puig brackets and fitting kit were model specific and folks that didn't know, thought it was OEM. I'd recommend one.

It's worth looking at the "Vairo touring" MRA screens. I had one on my Z750 and it worked a treat

Will have to look into getting one for my SV. I find anything above 70 to be annoying, it's even worse with the tank bag on, that thing seems to direct the blast right into my face somehow.

I've got this one on my er5 and although it wasn't mahoosive, there was more wind on my shoulders and less on my chest.

As said before, i have to completely lie down on the tank to totally get away from the wind.

Wind direction and deflection is a something that varies on different bikes, even on sports bikes which have decent wind protection it varies.. I find my daytona the most comfortable at speed tbh, it's the one thing that puts me off naked bikes, anything above 80 is head blown about territory!

I found the standard 07 plate Varadero 125 screen to be highly effective at stopping windblast even though it's relatively small and looks more cosmetic than functional. Very relaxed ride at 70 sat up as against the naked CB500B at 70 getting buffeted about.

Five feet nine inches.

I've tried my BMW with and without the 'sports' screen (whatever that means), and the difference is noticeable, but only above 60mph ish. It doesn't have a big surface area but the angle works well to deflect air away from my chest without pushing too much into my head.

How much difference does a small screen mounted to the forks/bars make to the handling of a bike on a windy day?
