Call someone like MCT and check how much a rebuild would cost. I'm guessing the spring broke or the "clip" that retains it?

Anyone else see the first photo and start humming "lowrider"?

There must be plenty of cheap used OEM shocks on eBay

Try a compression test then change the reg/rec after that check all the fuses. Should need some welding on the end of the nut with the mig welder we all have in our tool boxes.

WTF is that second pic all about? Any chance you could try photoing it from a location closer than the moon before you enlarge it?
I suppose getting a new shock is a bit of a priority? (As I'm headed out to the US soon, returning at the end of July and have plenty of luggage room for the return trip!)

If an ER6 shock fits, I have one in my garage with a Hagon (I think) spring on it. Supposed to lower slightly the ER6. Bought in error. Yours for postage (about £8 through work next day).

I can't see the pictures, but if it is a rear shock you're after, I have a 12k unit sitting here. Damping of sorts is still present. MOT'able no probs. I only changed it as I do a lot of 2 up and I is lard.
Yours for postage if you want it. I won't be running up to you on this one! Laughing M1 roadworks= Evil or Very Mad

Blue is right I would say, as just seeing the pic of the bike generally before noticing the collapsed back end, smacks of a machine that's been neglected and abused.

I do wonder if you really had no other warning signs from the rear end that the shock was about to collapse, which could have easily had you off the bike and laying in the road playing human skittle to on coming traffic.

No sympathy here, but hope you get a shock sorted for it, and give it a really good check all over before even attempting to ride that again.

From those photos I can't tell if that's a neglected/abused bike.
Rough it may be (It is! It is!).

I've read posts by Alpha-9 where he mentions taking it to a mechanic and friends for fettling/repairs, which usually indicates a level of mechanical understanding.

For the record yes I do love him and yes I've had one of the engine bolts snap and didn't know about it for a few days, and my bikes are kept very clean.

Nope and yep, I got a mechanic to rebuild the front caliper, because fuck that Thumbs Up

It went down a few weeks ago, there was a thread.
Bike was MOTd and checked over not too long before that.

Was nice and clean not too long ago:

Did check it out and thought it looked a bit rusty so sprayed it with ACF, didn't seem that bad though

On it's way to you.
Please bear in mind that it is a 2nd hand shock that has been sitting in a drawer for a year. It may have a bit of bounce when you press on, so no motogp antics, eh? Wink It is only a divvy shock. My MOT man said it was fine, and he can be a fussy sod. Any deteriation since removal is unknown and untested.
Be sure it is fitted correctly and fit for purpose, I accept no responsibility forthwith for failure in use.
Other than that, good luck! Thumbs Up
