Hadnt ridden in 2 weeks. Went to fire her up and the batteries dead.
Alarm probably sucking the life out of it, i have no idea how old the battery is either.
Have a Halfords tender hooked up, 1.25 amps. Can i kiss goodbye riding today?
Would it harm the bike to leave the charger hooked up and attempt starting it as a sort of boost?

Tried bumping it? you'd need a long ride with no headlight on to get charge back into it.

I wouldn't try starting it up with the charger attached unless you use a nail for a fuse.

Give it a couple of hours on charge and it should get it away, depending on the charger, the battery, mechanical state of the bike and all that jazz.

Got it going after about an hour and a half on the charger. Rode about 30 miles, now the weathers better i shouldnt need the tender very often.

You might find it goes flat quicker now it's been fully discharged - lead acid don't like it when they are getting older anyway.

You still riding a 535? I caught mine doing this at one point, realised the key was worn and was coming out with the ignition still on. Switched to the pristine spare key, all good. Took lock off and gave it a proper clean. I think it had been sprayed with an oil that polymerised a bit and went gummy.

Can you not just bump it and off you go or is that just old carbed bikes?
Does it not work for modern fuel injected bikes etc?

Took the battery completely out of one of my bikes at one point, didnt cause any problems...

Never had anything new enough for FI... wouldn't know

Never understood the insane obsession with not spending money on batteries some people have. Not like the bike starting is important I guess?

My battery went flat after a week away with the alarm on, I bought a 20 quid car battery charger and plugged the battery on for an hour which was enough to start the bike without problems after.

Same thing happened to me on my DRZ, was fitting a new tail light, kept testing to make sure it all worked and when I went to start it, it wouldn't go… Was just when the weather started to turn nice as well, bought a charger, didn't arrive until I finally managed to bump start it

Dont know whether to go for a Motobatt of Yuasa. Motobatt is maintenance free and boasts higher CCA but some reviews are mixed. I remember mine lost power on the 535 quite quickly when i had heated grips fitted (even when they were off, still drew power). But then the 535's charging system was weak at best.
