Hi All,

I am trying to build my confidence on cornering again and do drop the bike into corners and lean as much as I feel comfortable.

One question I have though is I am seeing the chicken strips as twist of wrist referred to it most of the times.

Below picture is approximate of how much I get on my tyre. Looking at that how far do you think one can lean without dropping the bike?(picture found on internet )

This may sound stupid but recently I test rode a 1000rr and was very impressed by the lean angle that was on the speedo.
I was doing around 25 degree and not leaning as much in fear of dropping a loaned bike but how much would a fast biker normally lean ?

it can't be 90 degree most certainly Smile

something around 40-50 ?

what happens or what are the indications showing you u have used all of the tyre and about to drop it if leaning any more.

Just a bit of harmless ribbing, by the looks of that tyre, you have plenty of lean angle left.

Don't try to go nuts straight away. Let your confidence build slowly, work on your cornering technique, let it come rather than pushing for it. The main thing is to enjoy your riding, don't allow peer pressure to get you doing something you're not ready for. Eventually, you'll lose those strips completely.

But this is the guy who adjusts suspension for most racerists setup for roundabouts. He obviously NEEDS rid of those strips.

As has been said, don't worry about it. Just ride, as experience grows you'll get there. My "strips" are a couple of cm on my ZZR and it's a lardy thing but I just enjoy my riding.

Forget about chicken strips, don't have anything to prove and just enjoy riding your bike. Confidence will come with experience. Just concentrate on being smooth and looking through the bend.

Check your tyre pressures, chances are it will be too high. Yes it will change direction quickly but it will feel like you are on a knife edge or nervous when lent over.

On the R1 i run 32psi front and 30 rear, those are cold pressures btw.

Drop rear tyre pressure to around 5psi, then go round a roundabout.

Chicken strips will be gone.

Also, you should be able to lean it this far & I look forward to pics of attempts;

That is quite low no? I Run 36/40 on the Triple and it feels spot on, any less feels rather slow and unwilling to get a shift on.

Those tyres look rather...used and that massive red spot on the chain looks worrying.

Hmmm, yes, same here and all is fine on the Fazer.

A wobbly slipping away feeling usually followed by a loud scraping sound and a good degree of pain.

Normally at the limit it'll give you a little nudge to say that you're pushing it. If the tyres are good tyres and give lots of feel that nudge will be quite a ways before you crash. If they are Bridgestone BT016's, then you'll just crash.

I'd say you've got a long way to go before you're at risk of crashing through leaning too far.

You'll give up way before the bike does on a corner, highly unlikely for the bike to drop out from under you unless you do something silly like jerk the throttle or hit the brakes... or something on the road.

I found this out by going into a corner way too hot and HAVING to lean it over, braking wasn't an option... bike went around without even a chirp Very Happy

*this isn't the way to do it, but it does show what the bike can do

Marquez often achieves over 55°, pushing towards 60° on some corners. Obviously that's on warm slicks and circuit tarmac.

Image for comparison: orange is 58°, pink is 25°.

My chicken strips are pretty similar to the ones posted above, but im not gonna beat myself up over it.

I enjoy my riding and as the weather gets warmer and i get back into the swing of things a bit more (5 year break from riding) they will get smaller and smaller.

Mine are so large that even my Mrs, who has no clue about anything bike related, was ribbing me about it the other day!!

Its all harmless banter, lean as much as your comfortable with.

will reduce tyre pressure a bit to see how it goes.

I am doing active counter steering by pulling the handle in corner and boy i loved it but also scary as is very agile.

Is this your R6 or your SV?

Your R6 will lean ridiculous angles (I have no chicken strips on mine currently, running 36psi on the back)
