Guys,

I've got a nose cone to replace the one on my bike (cracked when I binned it).

I'd like to spray the nose the same colour as my bike. Now, can I do this (considering its plastic)? Would a sanding down to remove the laquear and rough the surface be sufficient?

Yeah just sand the surface so the paint has a surface it can stick to.

How you planning to spray the paint (please dont say cans).

It really depends on what you are going to paint it with! And what colour it is at the moment!

Is there an 'Idiots guide' of how to do such painting. A guide to help with prep work, painting and laquering?

Halfords paints are good if you use them right.

Sand down your plastic so the paint has a surface to stick to,
Go over with very fine wet and dry to take out the scratch marks of the sand paper,

Apply primer,

Let dry and gently rub with VERY fine wet and dry,

apply more primer,

Etc etc etc.

Do this about 4 times...

Let it dry fully and then you can start applying your paint.

If you are using cans, Be careful of spluttering because they are prone to do it.

Give it PLEANTY of coats of paint. I didnt and Ive Tcut the bike and the grey primer has started to slightly shine through on the back Sad

Then its a case of laquering it up, and polising / buffing.

Geting the colour match will be difficult though, Unless you get it mixed up at a garage, If you do it this way, you will need an airbrush kit...

There are dozens of books on the subject..... & the majority of them completely contradict the clueless fucking replies by so called *painters* on this board. Basically ignore any advice on the subject in this thread... Ya get dumbass comments like:
"Go over with very fine wet and dry to take out the scratch marks of the sand paper,
Apply primer,
Let dry and gently rub with VERY fine wet and dry,"

No fucking hint at what constututes "fine" or "very fine" at all, if the guy doing the paint is familair with woodworking his idea of fine & very fine is gonna be completely fucking wrong for auto paint finishes.
I've posted a few replies on how to do the job correctly on this board several times & ya still get idiots giving backassward advice, ya may as well use a fucking roller..........

The only cans I've ever had any success with are ones I bought from a specialist car paint supplier, he mixes the paint himself, according to your paint code and then fills these airosol cans, they have a proper fan pattern and the paint is thicker than that from Halfords.

Thanks guys. I've seen some spray paints (forget the brand) but you buy it as a three pack, primer, colour and laquer.

Yep, my fairing is black and I want to make it flourescent orange.

You've given me a good start though, thanks.
