Hi everyone!
Got a quick one for anybody knowledgeable with these models; Essentially I had been given this bike to repair its fuel pump; everything else worked but it wasnt getting fuel past the pump.
So new pump on, ignition on, primed weheyyyy fixed....
hits the starter button, and click.. click click click.. ( So i went for the jump pack )
Jump pack on, primes and cycles through like it should but this time I only get a single click.
I have noticed however that when I am hitting the button im losing quite a significant amount of voltage, I go from a steady 13.00 to around 4-6 when i hit the button.
I have checked the starter relay and all seemed to be fine apart from the ground test, I should be getting a little resistance from the diode but i gets sod all. Yet if i pull the bike off its stand, pull the clutch in and whack in neutral and i get continuity like i should.
Now im personally thinking the relay is shagged, As testing the grounding side of it doesnt show what the book says. I also tested the diode and that is working like it should.
What do you think everyone? Pisses me off when this happens. Fix one thing and another problem comes up.... I wouldnt mind but the bike has only done 3k miles.
Thanks in advance! ____________________ www.adrenaline-motorcycles.com. |

Usually indicates a knackered battery.
Put a screwdriver across the two terminals on the starter relay, if it turns over and starts, your relay is knackered.
Very rare for the starter motor to die, but not impossible, leave that test until last by taking it out and putting a battery on it, if it spins, all good; but again, unlikely. ____________________ Previously owned: Kawasaki KH125, Suzuki GP125, Suzuki GX 125, Honda CB125 TDC '83, Honda ntv 600, Kawasaki ER5, Kawasaki ZZR600, Aprilia RSV 1000 Mille

Kramdra, I have tried all of what you have suggested, to no avail seems the negative lead on the battery is getting super hot!
Nemo, Thats what i initially thought, thats why i grabbed the jumper pack. tried to jump the terminals like suggested and only get a single click like with the battery pack.
Bikenut, Its funny you should say that, i was looking at the airbox earlier and noticed a line of fuel running down the block, Im gonna take off the airbox and pull the plugs, try with zero compr.. and go from there.
Again, thanks to all who have replied! ____________________ www.adrenaline-motorcycles.com. |

Hydraulic lock, more common on carbed machines, just where it's been turning over and not firing, thus filling with fuel, been known to bend con-rods.
Take the plugs out, turn engine over and stand back.
If it's been sat a while put a couple of drops of oil in each cylinder. ____________________ Previously owned: Kawasaki KH125, Suzuki GP125, Suzuki GX 125, Honda CB125 TDC '83, Honda ntv 600, Kawasaki ER5, Kawasaki ZZR600, Aprilia RSV 1000 Mille

Nemo, Most definitely; i drained around 500ml just out of the throttle bodies, god only knows how much was in the cylinders. Will be putting her back together again tomorrow so fingers crossed no big damage has happened! ____________________ www.adrenaline-motorcycles.com. |

So ive started the draining process today, took sump plug out and have drained almost 10litres of fuel alone before any oil had appeared in the mix, needless to say it stunk and now i stink of it aswell...
Popped off the spark plugs and turned over the engine to then be met with a cloud of fuel, so now that is sorted im gonna be refreshing the oil and hopefully fingers crossed she will run!
good news is nothing was wrong with the starter motor or its circuit so atleast further inspection payed off.
thanks for all your help everyone! ____________________ www.adrenaline-motorcycles.com. |
