Hi all recently bought a mx125 . When I got it , it had no kick so I ordered one. I've put it on today following the parts diagram because I had taken the side case off , I put it all together and it turns the engine over as should but when it springs back its not landing in the same place and landing in different places also it isn't locking back to upright position its floating forwards and back making a rattling noise as if can hear the kickstarter bendix slightly grinding against its home where it engages . Any one got any experience with these kickstarter mechanisms ? Any help will be appreciated and thanks in advance .

I just followed the diagram . I'll attach a pic . I didn't preload the spring how would I go about that ? And is it supposed to lock on to something when it's preloaded ? Because I can't hold it loaded whilst putting the case on ? Thanks

pics and diagram........

the spring actually returns the k/start lever and mech to its neutral position, that is to the non kick start position with the "bendix" or quadrant or "gear free wheel " mech out of mesh, usually.

pics and diagram.

if its not working properly and still in mesh and the engine backfires or kicks back, with the mech not "disengageing", it could smash the casing

diagrams just come over......14 is the return spring, oh great the diagram has now gone.......there is an idler ( 1 ) in mesh with the clutch, a gear wheel ( 15 ) in front of the return spring and a sliding sprung loaded rachet ( 18 ) ...which connects with its gear,,,, you see the siding rachet gear.........mechanism

on the k/start return due to the return spring, the sliding ratchet is made to disengage, via the arm on it and a ramp .........the ramp will be on the casing.........

so the first movement of kicking of the k/statrt on starting , the sliding rachet is allowed to turn and mesh with its partner, by going down the ramp......and engaging with the rachet mech........the rachet mech is like a free wheel for when the motor actually starts, and will make a noise if the k/start is not at rest....as the rachet "rachets"......

the kick start shaft has a slot in the inner end?? which engages with the centre of the return spring??

and a post or peg or similar for the return spring eye to locate??

you will have to wind up the spring maybe half a turn or may be one turn to pre load it, so that it makes the k/start shaft want to return to the Neutral or idle position ( k/start well and truelly OFF ).......

remember when assembled properly, pushing the k/start to start the engine will wind this spring up more, so find out by how much it needs preloading........else it will break.......

are there any aligning dots or marks on the k/shaft and sliding rachet ??

After studying the diagrams further of the crankcase , I've found the " kickstartcoupling stop " is missing from my crankcase .thatl be why it's don't find its home position and the teeth are grind as the ramp mechanism to pull it away from the gear is non existent. Just ordered one from aprilia was 15 delivered so not so bad . More waiting but at least I've found the problem thanks for input .

good work, also find out where spring eye goes ( maybe a slot affair in the c/case ) and how much it needs to be pretensioned or loaded.....
