Was out riding my bike and slowed down around the camera zones ... suddenly i see red and blue flashing lights but they kept putting them off and on intermittently... I had to look about 3 times to make sure I wasn't seeing things, it was this black cabriolet sports car - could probably only fit 2 ppl in, but scared the s**t out of me !!

First thing I did was slow down to
1. make sure i was definitely under the speed limit
2. make sure i wasn't seeing things

so i pull up on the left in a bus stop where a few other people can also see what I'm doing, and the car carries on past me, without any flashing lights at all. Funny thing was while they were behind me that they kept turning them on for a few seconds then off again... could of been some wa**ers having a laugh at my expense... i've heard of that sort of thing happening to other people where they pretend to be coppers then nick all your stuff...

If you see it again, get their reg and contact your local police station.

That's pretty illegal (having blue lights is, nevermind flashing blue lights).

hahaha, my uncle has blue neos that flash under his car, so he stuck some (fake) aerials on his boot.

we were justt cruising along, then this old woman in a mini gets in our way, he sticks the lights on and tells me to put my head down. the old girl pulls over and we thrash it past her.... was so damn funny, guess you had to be there Laughing

Prat.

It's people like your uncle that cause accidents.

Also slightly annoying if you're riding in a less than 100% legal way or on a less than 100% legal bike. Thumbs Down

Can see why the idea of it is funny but its less funny if you're riding and see in your mirrors a blue light and have to decide is it a boi racer or actual police.

Going along the a470, a long time ago i had the same thing happen to me .
Lights started flashing in the car behind grill, shit myself, pulled over quickly on the hard shoulder ready for the "do you know what speed you were doing speach".
Then the git carries on going, could have sworn he's going to pull me.

Anyway as i was in my mx5 at the time i thought "WANKER", must have been had by kids !!!
Caught the fuckers up !,cut them up (BTW this is before i calmed down,so dont flame me ! grown up a bit since then ! Karma ) and blew them away . Eat my shit ! ha ! Twisted Evil

Well turned out according to my brother it might be mountain rescue out on a call ! Felt really guilty after. Crying or Very sad

In sussex on the a/m23 the ones you need to be careful of is a

Black Volvo S80 - W Reg
Blue Omega - YE51 Reg
and a Silver Evo 8 - Unknown reg.

There are quite a few more mainly blue volvo s60's.

Next time, if you see them doing it again, report them.

I have blue neons on my bike, but they are tucked up in the fairing, very subtle. Mainly for visability, I have black leathers and a black bike and after being missed by inches by a wally who didn't see me I put the neons on. The new bike is silver and a bit easier to see.
If I ever thought the neons freaked anyone out, I would take them off.

(Wildcat) Your neons are not flashing or in a place a Police bike would have them. Think your safe Thumbs Up

There is no way you could use them to intimidate others for self amusement.

Instead of making people think you're a cop car, get yourself a nice loud set of air horns from somewhere like here. Person cuts you up so sound the air horn at them and watch them crap themselves as they think they're about to be flattened by a lorry.

Or you could get one meant for a boat. Razz

Well some people do blow too much money on stuff for their bike, and it's something different to other tarty stuff so someone might. Razz The cheaper lorry ones compared to the cost of neons or a race can are quite cheap,

My first car was an old Morris Minor, to which we fitted a bus horn. People used to shit themselves when I gave them a blast! Twisted Evil

Blue neons are safe as long as they aren't pulsing. Red lights on police vehicles are only on the rear of the vehicle - ie- you can only see them from behind. White lights are forward-facing so if you saw red lights coming up behind you, then i reckon it was someone titting about! Cool

Apparantly, not that i'd ever do this, you can get police strobes fitted to your cars/bikes. So one flick of the switch and you'e got your very own set of lights! Shocked

I think some dodgy companies in max power advertise stuff like this. Thumbs Down

The law states the no forward facing light can be blue even blue neons are illegal for that matter all neons are illegal just that no case has been brought to court yet but the law still states that a forward facing light has to be white except for yellow indicators.

I looked into it a while back as I had neons on the car but took them off after hassle.

As for flashing light of anykind these are a no no as they are classed as a distraction to other road users I don't think that impersonating a police car is very sensible either you can even get done for having numbers on your car if then don't have a line through them.

Undercar nens are ok as long as you cant see the actual tube/LED. Front facing are still a bit ~ it just depends on where you have them.
