After 6 weeks I cleaned the chain and the other bits for the first time. It is a cbf125 with 0 rings, whatever that means

The chain had a lot of black goo, I emptied a whole can of WD-40 chain cleaner (i know, paraffin works as well, but I did not like the idea of riding with 4 litres of highly flamable stuff on my back)

The chain cleaner is supposed to be compatible with O rings chains. I did not brushed on the sides as the manual said. I brushed the top and botton, then i used a dry cloth on the chain. At that point you could actually see the chain colour.

After that I aplied a lot of gear oil with a brush up to the point that you could see a film of oil all over the chain.

Now it makes a funny ramdon noise, like space dust or pop rocks or that sparkling sugar that was sold in sachets long ago.

Any idea what could it be? I am worried that I went too far with the chain cleaner, it was amazing to see how it removed the guck. Maybe I went too far with it?

How old is the bike and chain, how many miles on it?

The bike rides well, very well actually. I think I could feel it smoother that I remember. If tomorrow it keeps making that noise I will upload a video.
It was amazing the amount of dark goo around the front sprocket. I think I might be the first one who cleaned it. It has 4800 miles.
Another question, Is it a good idea to spray a bit of WD 40 over the engine and exhaust? The engine looks shinier, and the exhaust is beggining to develop some rustiness (tipical cbf 125)

It is the first time I clean the CBF125! it actually looks nice!

It will burn off quickly, and stink doing so. I wouldn't bother.

Removing a large amount of muck will result in the surfaces of the moving parts meeting in a slightly different way, plus there will still be a bit of grit and dust there, so it's bound to sound different. I suspect that after a few more miles and a few more cleans it'll quieten down.

Also don't forget to check and adjust the chain slack regularly. My YBR125 needed a little bit of adjustment every 800 miles.

When you first oil a very clean chain you *will* hear a funny crackling and popping noise - however, it's pretty damn quiet and you have to listen carefully as you turn the rear wheel. Not sure if this is the sound you're talking about, but I hear it regularly. As in, every time I lube the chain. It goes away if you continue rotating the back wheel - it just seems to make the poppy sounds for, say, the first ten or twenty turns. After that it seems to not do it. I don't quite know what it is, but I've always assumed it's just the sound made by the freshly lubricated globs of oil getting compressed between the sprocket and the chain's rollers. Regardless, I do honestly believe it's the sound of a happy chain and grateful sprockets - and roughly translates as "oh yeah uh huh mm mmm that's right that's the stuff right there yep - that I LIKE!!!"

That's what it is. Non-fling chain lube is especially sticky and makes those noises as it gets squashed and pulled apart between the chain and sprockets.

Check your wheel alignment, could be the sound of the chain trying to come off the sprocket at a slightly odd angle.
