The woman who pulled out in front of him without looking "wishes it had never happened" but there's not even a hint that any action is being taken against her.

Seems a few things contributed to this. Yes the car driver should have seen him before pulling out, but if he had been within the 60mph speed limit ?

Be interesting to know how they examined and proved his bike had a defective rear brake, unless it was missing a disc or something daft like that.

I think they do some sums from skid marks, (probably called a forensic examination of the scene in todays parlance).

No/worn pads, no brake fluid etc.

But I also do wonder how exactly they know it was defective. Thinking

I mean every single motorcycle, I've ever bought or had a chance to work on, had stuck pot/s in the rear caliper and the pads looked like they were put there in the 80's. The vast majority of us just don't use the rear brake. So in the end, we all ride motorcycles with defective rear brakes. Thumbs Up

Interesting. It's a pretty precise figure to come up with so I assume they'd need pretty solid facts to substantiate it.

Well they do say up to so they give themselves some leeway. Whatever the exact speed it seems he was going pretty fast. Add in an inattentive driver......

When i did work at the coroner's court, the people who had killed others on the road by no fault of their own were always more remorseful than those who had fucked up and killed people.

Again from time at at the coroners court, they have all kinds of calculations and formulas to do with damage to each vehicle, marks on the road, how far each vehicle was moved, even damage to the body.

They'll usually say they were travelling at "between XX and YY mph", being the minimum and maximum speeds which would result in...well...the result of the crash, but with the media being the media, of course he was travelling at 82 mph through a kitten sanctuary, probably on one wheel

A sorry tale this and I thought these days that they are no longer known as RTA's as they are not accidents because someone is at fault. Perhaps someone should have woken the coroner up and told them this.

Coroners arent allowed to place blame...they can give people a polite bollocking for fucking up, but nothing more.
It'll be the crown prosecution service who has decided not to prosecute...coroner would have had the same outcome whether she'd been prosecuted or not.

+1 this road is behind my house, I drive past it daily and the man was from my town.

I couldn't believe that she wasn't prosecuted, it is a clear stretch of road and who doesn't speed up to overtake? She didn't check her mirrors and it bought this man's life to a horrifying end.

The speed camera is about 600m down the road from this accident on the exit of a wide corner... at which lad who was a few years below me at school sadly died at on a frosty day a few months back. It wouldn't have surprised me in the slightest if he freaked out at the sight of the 'safety' camera and crashed.

People are moaning saying the road is too dangerous and the speed limit needs to be dropped, but these two instances are simply accidents or poor driving, the road is fine to drive down and is wide enough you probably fit three trucks comfortably aside down it!

No more than the responses in this thread. It's natural for us to be more sympathetic towards the guy who died since we all ride bikes but let's face it if you're overtaking a line of cars AND approaching a speed camera zone you want to get it done as fast as possible so you can get your speed down again.

3/. Pretty clearly referring to the Hot Fuzz scene where they say that the police 'don't refer to them as accidents because it implies no ones to blame'

It's entirely possible for someone to cause an accident without it being a deliberate act. An RTC doesn't need to be an accident either - it might well be a deliberate act.
