I have finally got round to looking at my rs125 after it cutting out whilst i was riding it,and not starting again. The exhaust developed a hole in it about 3 days prior to cutting out, but about two weeks before that it was cutting out every so often, i'd wait about 2 mins and she'd fire back up, this time she didn't. I did a compression test today and got a reading of 45psi, Would a hole in the exhaust compromise a compression test or would it be the same? Would i be right in thinking it needs a top end rebuild? Hi

Hole in the exhaust might have a minor effect on a compression check, but nowhere near dropping the compression by ~2/3.

Did you do the compression check with the throttle wide open?

However fair chance it needs a top end rebuild. Easy enough job.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I didn't initially hold throttle open, but just been out and tested again with the throttle open but no change, still 45psi. I will remove the top end and take a look. cheers

sounds like the usual rs story , hopefully its just piston if not new barrel , what engine you got a 122 or a 123?
