I would look at a bike with a bit more power if you are looking to 'progress' up the stakes. Maybe an older sports 600 or one of the newer semi-naked 600s, for instance a hornet or fazer.

I pick up my new SV650S K4 on Saturday and I love it, even though I've only been on it for about 2 hours. Wait till this weekend though.....
I looked at bandit 600's and it's a good bike, just too much 'old hat' for me. Especially when you look at the price of a new bandit compared to the SV.
Mines cost £4,100 and I think that's a bargain next to a hornet 600 (£5,199) or fazer 600 (£5,399). Plus it's a V-twin |

I will say go for it! brilliant bikes, even though mine is the old style K2 model, its still pretty much the same.
Handling is good, slower than any sports bike but completely stable even when the pegs are grinding! Engine is a lot more pokey than anyone expects with good power through out and all important character is added with the V-twin characteristics!!
Best bike in the real world in my biased opinion! ____________________ It was like that before i got here! |

Really beautiful bikes but lacking in power I say...
That would have been my first bike but got the Ninja instead, all depends on what your using it for.
I've read even mag testers loving this bike as it's an all round good egg. Torquey enough for decent wheelies. Only thing that I would say is try get a faired version or you'll forever be cleaning crap out of it and it will look fairly tattered after use...
Greg, get a sports 600. They really do do everything, comfy enough to commute and fast enough not to get bored of... ____________________ Old bikes >>> https://www.bikepics.com/members/cc123/ |

Aye, the only drawback colin is that its going to be chained to a lampost outside. I don't have a garage up here
Thats the only thing that would really stop me. |

Lock up? I doubt it...
Trouble is, an er5 is never going to be desireable, not even to a thief. There is what I think is a tl1000r/gsxr600 (its got a huge arse anyway) parked up with its cover on, hidden away and its been tehre all winter. For about 3 months.
Chances are, I'll probably take the risk and get one this year, but its going to be like fort knox. Poor lampost |

Greg, getting a sports bike is the way forward and you KNOW'S IT..
I know what you mean tho, wouldn't want anyone trying to thief my bike. I couldn't sleep at night if mines was chained to a poll ____________________ Old bikes >>> https://www.bikepics.com/members/cc123/ |

had one when they first came out, grin factor 10, ace fun to ride to work on a sunday, track etc, never had anything go wrong ever !loads of bolt ons if thats your thing. had a 94 gixer 750 before i got the sv, what it lacks in flat out power it makes up for in v twin grunt. not the fastest out there but handle really well, newer models are pretty much the same from what i gather. try this site if still unsure. svorg.com cheap to insure. ____________________ Buy Blitish |

I wouldn't pay attention to anyone who describes anything as 'a girl's bike'. They're just up themselves.
I'd go for the SV, even if only for V-twin coolness, nice wide torque delivery and the most excellent sound. ____________________ I must not be a troll...
