as long as you have done the forms saying its scrapped i think you should be ok.
just to be safe id make a copy before you post it off to dvla.
did you have it insured?
if so then make sure you get that stopped asap.

Why not just look up if that address actually exists rather than trying to guess how many houses there are on the road?

Same with his name, there's no need to be guessing if it's real or not.

And then what?

I'd take the tack that delivering the details that the new keeper - I stress the new keeper - is obliged to provide completely discharges OP's liability.

In fact, with copies of the transfer slip and proof of delivery to hand, I'd suspect I'd just go ahead and ignore anything from the DVLA about that vehicle and wait for a summons. You can't help them any further and you're not obliged to.

It isn't your problem. You sold the car, he wrote down some details, you pass on the paperwork. Once DVLA notice that it's a bit dodgy - which will probably once the new V5c is returned undelivered - they might do a bit of looking, and eventually flag the number plate on ANPR as one to stop.

Pikey has 2-3 months use out of the car before the plates need changing. If you want to make things more difficult for him, report it to the police, not the DVLA.

Once you've filled in your paperwork and sent it back, it's the DVLA's problem. They can't expect sellers to do due diligence on potential buyers on their behalf yet, give it a year or so though.

I'd keep it to yourself that you checked up on them and found the details were wonky though and claim ignorance entirely if the DVLA come knocking.

Shogun will probably turn up embedded in the side of a petrol station or One-Stop somewhere with the cash machine missing anyway.

I had pretty much the same thing with my near-scrap 3 series. Only my "motor traders" were eastern European.

Checked with my wife's uncle who is ex-CID, and he said it's up to the buyer what they put, and 100% no duty on the seller to investigate whether they're telling the truth or not. So don't worry about it. I kept photos of the docs and the (dated/timed) receipts anyway, just in case they got nicked for insurance/sorn on the way home...

You should have put: NO TIME WASTERS!! on your advert. I hear that helps avoid this sort of thing.

You'll be fine, just make sure all your admin is watertight.

I know you said you've checked the address on the royal mail website, however one of my old addresses was a new build that i was renting and it took forever for the royal mail to update their website and details.

Was a nightmare whenever i came to insure a vehicle or get a mobile or anything where they had to search for the address, as technically my address didn't exist.

Could be that this is the case in this situation although sounds dodgy its not down to you to prove the details given are correct.

Can I just ask, why do you care?

It's nothing to do with you, and not your responsibility.

You've done your bit, let the DVLA deal with it.

The only questions now are what crime will the Shogun be used in and how long are we going to have to wait until mpd72 gets woken up by police removing his front door?

Easily laughed off though. Reasonable doubt is all you need.

Look on the bright side, they'll probably run it with cloned plates anyway, or a line of Elbonian gibberish.

Keep copies of slip and proof of postage to hand. Have you any texts between you and the gyppos or a log of the time and date of phone calls? Emails / ebay messages and your listing ending with the gyppo as the winning bidder might also come in handy should you need it.

If you get any come back after selling it, I would remind the DVLA by writing to them with proof of postage and include a copy of the above. IF you ever got a summons imho going above and beyond your statutory duties should get on the good side of all but the most bad tempered judge. I would also head off the rozzers at the pass by sending them a copy of your evidence, if there is any come back. The pikeys might be smart enough to run cloned plates and remove the VIN etc, or they might not. I would err on the side of caution and have all my ducks in a row, just in case.

Took their time. Hopefully that's the last that you hear about it.

Just remember that you have nothing to gain by trying to be helpful.
