BMW bikes are also good on fuel. At higher speed BMW F800GT has better fuel consumption than nc700... and twice the power

I've read some reviews of the Beemer and they rave about all the trick bits, suspension and the like.

Does the price you quote include any of the extras? Indeed, do any of the prices mean for the top spec version?

Is the KTM more expensive because it has all their bits vs BMW advertising the poverty model?

The prices are for the most basic models but Honda is often more expensive without the available extras anyway.

I have a F800GT, it's just over two years old, service was £180 (keeps in warranty, included brake fluid change). now they want £300 if I want to extend the BMW warranty, which might be worth it if it does blow up, but it's never missed a beat so far. I has all the fancy acronyms. mpg has averaged 50 but is mostly commuting, best was 58.2

BMW dealers charge £75+vat for any work on the bike.

At that rate a major service including valve clearances is likely to cost £360 at a normal 4 hours.

I think the problem is that BMW take a lot longer than 4 hours to do the work.

when I asked about an oil and filter change (because I didn't want to do it in the street) they quoted £130 plus materials i.e 2l of oil and a filter.

Its a job that if I set up correctly I can do in 30 mins.

After talking to mates that was considering R1200RTs and GS etc..

They are inline with other prices until you add extras.. RT comes with panniers but no topbox.. That's an extra £600 ish, BMW satnav = £600 ish. The list goes on.

But it's the same with the cars right?

I once worked in a dual franchised kawasaki/bmw store

bmw labour £45 p/h, kawasaki labour £30 p/h (1987)

asked why the difference, answered that BMW rate set by BMW, the higher rate and therefore larger bills is supposed to reassure owners of quality service and workmanship.........

The last BMW I owned was a K75S in the late 80's, that was a fantastic machine great build quality, bulletproof engine. But I haven't had another since then. Various mates have recent models, including a R1200GS, and K1600GT, I was seriously considering a K1300S until a recent change of mind. Friends experience with current models hasn't been hassle free, with various quality / reliability problems including the infamous R1200RT with its potentially failing rear suspension unit which necessitated bike being taken off the road and a 100% recall

G650FS not really comparable to a NC750.
Ducati Multistrada should be compared to the 'HP' line of BMWs.

BMWs DO tend to hold their value better. Wouldn't want any of the models mentioned - S-RR only one that I would and that doesn't hold it's value too well - also has a reputation for going bang.

Big single not great for distance at A road/motorway speeds (I have had many).
Also; main purpose is for poor ewan and thingy wannabes, as I understand it .

Try riding a minitwin (SV650); even the twin lover wave was wearing away at the rev-limiter, thanks to only the subtlest of symptoms your revs are rising.

I'd be concerned if any of the bikes in this list suffered from this sort of thing and would certainly expect better of a 3 month old bmw..
