Hai guyz,

Knocked off my bike, Driver fled the scene. Have multiple witnesses all made note of number plate and details passed to police who attended the scene. I probably have it all on my camera though I haven't viewed it yet.

Bad gash to index finger that had to be stitched, graze to left elbow, and swollen left knee due to impact and is soft tissue damage. Can't really remember state of bike but have the details of the shop where the owner is looking after it.

Never been in this position before. What do I do next? Or do I just wait for police to contact me or what? I have a crime reference.

****EDIT****

Bexley Magistrates Court
07/01/2016
Driving Without Due Care and Attention: No separate penalty
Disqualified from driving for 4 months
No MOT: Withdrawn
Failed To Stop: £300 fine
Fail to report: No separate penalty
Court Costs: £115[/url]

To be honest i really don't care what he has in terms of conviction. What matters to me was that he was caught and convicted. Claim is ongoing although full liability has been admitted. Still having issues with my left index finger and awaiting physiotherapy.

er, maybe check all your memberships of clubs, organistations, household insurance etc, see if you get free legal advice from any of them as part of the package?

Speak to a solicitor specialising in this area.. They will know how to find his insurer based on the registration number, follow up with the police to see whether they are pursuing the driver for leaving the scene of an RTC.

Appeal to the witnesses to make official statements if they havent already done so.

That would be my course of action.

EDIT:
If you are going to pursue this legally, Write EVERYTHING down, before you forget it.

Not a member of any clubs, I'm just a commuter and akchully just went for a lunchtime spin as seemed nice weather. Have never ever felt inclined to do this before and will not be doing so again.

Good shout on the legal part of home insurance. I have that and see what it covers. Karma

Have taken photos of injuries (apart from finger is bandaged so can't see the actual injury). Will continue to do so over the coming days. Thumbs Up

You now need to go all Wolf Simpson and start riding into things deliberately, cursing loudly all the while.

That'll show 'em.

Well, looked on MID and no insurance with reg no given to me. Sad

However, video has come up trumps and reg was one character wrong and shows on MID as insured. Will make a call to po-po in morning and advise them and then get on phone to Direct Line.

Thanks y'all. Karma

Join British cycling, you can join and still get the legal support for an incident from before you joined.

I think white dalton is the name that got handed around when I used to frequent cyclechat.net

I commute on it and derive no joy from it. It is a means to an end and I get a bit fitter too. It's funny how things work, I won entry into a race in Sweden next Tuesday so went out in my lunch break to see how I fared at the 17km I have to do. Now trying to get in some sort of shape to still do the race, will be gutting if I just get to watch - it really is a once in a lifetime thing.

police should be able to advise you of the insurance details. then just contact them and explain what their driver did.
Keep all receipts for expenses and try to get invoices for lost work etc.

Tis true, also known as "Loss of leisure time". I think it works out to be the same as your hourly wage.

Interesting to know, thanks. Have agreed that I'd get a bike out Sunday and see how I fared and let them know Monday. I am struggling to bend my left knee although it is a lot better than it was yesterday. I need to be competitive (my version, not theirs) and if I'm not then the race has to come first it's only fair. So I'd step down to just being a spectator.

I came off my road bike some time back, slid out like a motorbike crash and grazed my knee

Was on the bus for a couple of weeks after as, while it eased up and I could ride, the rubbing against clothing (late oct) and pain climbing any kind of hill on the bike wasn't worth it

different people & different injury may = different recovery time etc so I wish you well.

Well after 2 days of constant ringing and leaving a couple of voicemails, I finally got through to the number provided to me by initially calling 101 (Can't call Lewisham Station direct) and it was the wrong people.

They tell me to call 101 and ask for "Traffic Team at Marlow House". Call 101 and it is voice recognition - I say Traffic Management and obviously get put through to Greater Manchester Police. They tell me to ring 101 again and "press the hash key a load of times and you will get to speak to someone Laughing Laughing Laughing

Finally end up with the team at Lewisham that are dealing with it. They do not have the report in yet but should land any day but they have started the ball rolling on obtaining any council cctv.

They also liked that I had it all on video so they will get someone out to take it and ask me to complete a statement on it "in the next few weeks". Eh? I am also getting some paperwork through in the next few days in which will be a form for me to list injuries.

They also said they will not make a visit to the perp, just put a marker against the vehicle?? and send them a letter???

Solicitors have contacted me and are putting the case together and will send paperwork out to confirm.

Stool cory bro.

Actually it's quite a frustrating story, I wish you the best of luck. It naffs me off how they have video evidence of the driver failing to stop, and all they issue is a poxy letter. I bet the driver will be shitting himself; "oh noes, a letter, best not hit and run anymore otherwise I might get a threatening fax next time"
