a Yamaha YBR is a decent bike but it is made in China?

It's made by Jianshe, or Jianshe-Yamaha if you're being fancy. They also make the Jianshe JS125-6A and 6C which you could buy for far less from https://www.learnerlegal.com/

I'm not saying that you should, because you'll need to go through the minor hassle of registering it yourself, insurance choices may be more limited and resale will be worse, but you could.

With a few differences (carb instead of FI, wheel bearings) they're parts compatible.

The AJS 'Eco' is another rebranding, and again much cheaper than the ridiculously overpriced 'Honleys': https://www.ajsmotorcycles.co.uk/new_AJS/docs/main.htm

However, if you want a warranty and decent value and don't mind buying Chinese branded (bearing in mind that the YBR is Chinese made anyway) then I'd take a look at Lexmotos.

https://www.lexmoto.co.uk/motorcycles.php

Plenty of dealers, great parts supply, and they make a credible claim to source bikes that give the fewest problems.

The only model that I can speak to is the Vixen which I found surprisingly reliable and robust, and it has the merit of being probably the cheapest new 125 you can buy, a known commodity, and it has a strong owner community and few foibles. You might want to take a punt on one their newer models, but that would be a little riskier.

All that said though, if you have the money to buy that Honley then the smartest move is probably to spend it on a used YBR in good condition as it'll depreciate much less.

That's an informative website, it doesn't even say if the 250 is a single or a twin.

Thanks for the info. I'll have a look at the Lexomoto and a used YBR. I've budgeted about £2000 for bike, helmet, jacket and gloves (I have the rest).

anyone think this is possible for a 60 mile daily commute on mainly 30mph streets?

Not an expert on far eastern 125s but the Kymco Pulsar LX
we bought cheap seems an OK bike for what it is and may be worth considering if one comes your way.

Parts are available from David Silvers ( long time Honda spares place) among others
Now we've fixed the problems caused by the poor mechanics the previous owner trusted, in its running fine
Seen others for sale pretty cheaply too.

Of course its too early to say what it will be like long term
but as I reckon most bikes suffer more from owners than anything else, if looked after it should do OK.

Why has this thread got such a spam rating?
It seems an honest enquiry to me

No. 105-115mpg is likely the best you will see in any situation from that bike.

Nope, not from a carbed bike. 100+ yes, 150, no. That would need an MSX, PCX, CB125F or similar and a lot of downhill stretches. Wink

MSX will manage 145 with lots of riding in 30 and 40 zones. I managed this during winter when all I was doing was work and back. It drops to maybe 120 now I take a longer trip home. The lowest it will go is about 100mpg, which is from extended running in 3rd with WOT into a strong headwind.

I've never managed 150, despite Honda advertising 180mpg in euro testing

The MD of the company claims 173mpg out of a single tank.
https://www.honley.bike/#!Honley-clocks-up-173-miles-to-gallon/c1xgl/1

Thanks for all the replies Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up , i am thinking now to go for a second hand Honda or Yamaha.

I will be putting around 14000 miles a year on it with my 60 mile daily roundtrip so reliability is a key factor

if i worked for them why would i be asking advice about their bikes? Its just where the blog post was.

If i was trying to promote these bikes surely i would be saying i had one of there bikes and how amazing it is.

I cant actually find anyone that owns one to ask what they are like, while keeping my eyes out lately i've never even seen one on the road. seen loads of Honda, Yamaha and Kawasaki.

Anyone can make a claim. It'll be no more economical than any other carbed Chinese 125.

Good call.

Then you'd better get handy with a spanner.

173 Miles from a single tank sounds about right - 173 MPG does not!

If warranty is a factor for you, you would be better-off with a better-known make, with a good dealer servicing and parts network.

Due to the massive depreciation on new Chinese bikes though, I think you would be wise to spend much less on an older, more reliable machine, learn to do your own routine maintenance, and keep back some of your hard-earned to pay for parts and service consumables.
