Howdy all. I'm looking to get a bike to commute to work. i live in Huddersfield and the closest dealer sells Honley. Being new to the motorcycle game i spent some time doing research and the basic consensus is dont touch Chinese bikes, buy a Japanese bike. Now, aftyer speaking with the dealer it was made apparent that the Honley HD1 is make in the same factory as Yamaha YBR, is in fact pretty much the same as a YBR with a different body kit but is made in China. Im confused, all the research i have done says that a Yamaha YBR is a decent bike but it is made in China?

I want a new bike for the warranty but i cant afford a Japanese bike so this seems like a good idea but i would like a more seasoned opinion on the matter.
any thoughts would be helpfull.

It's made by Jianshe, or Jianshe-Yamaha if you're being fancy. They also make the Jianshe JS125-6A and 6C which you could buy for far less from https://www.learnerlegal.com/
I'm not saying that you should, because you'll need to go through the minor hassle of registering it yourself, insurance choices may be more limited and resale will be worse, but you could.
With a few differences (carb instead of FI, wheel bearings) they're parts compatible.
The AJS 'Eco' is another rebranding, and again much cheaper than the ridiculously overpriced 'Honleys': https://www.ajsmotorcycles.co.uk/new_AJS/docs/main.htm
However, if you want a warranty and decent value and don't mind buying Chinese branded (bearing in mind that the YBR is Chinese made anyway) then I'd take a look at Lexmotos.
https://www.lexmoto.co.uk/motorcycles.php
Plenty of dealers, great parts supply, and they make a credible claim to source bikes that give the fewest problems.
The only model that I can speak to is the Vixen which I found surprisingly reliable and robust, and it has the merit of being probably the cheapest new 125 you can buy, a known commodity, and it has a strong owner community and few foibles. You might want to take a punt on one their newer models, but that would be a little riskier.
All that said though, if you have the money to buy that Honley then the smartest move is probably to spend it on a used YBR in good condition as it'll depreciate much less. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Nope, not from a carbed bike. 100+ yes, 150, no. That would need an MSX, PCX, CB125F or similar and a lot of downhill stretches. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

The MD of the company claims 173mpg out of a single tank.

Thanks for all the replies , i am thinking now to go for a second hand Honda or Yamaha.
I will be putting around 14000 miles a year on it with my 60 mile daily roundtrip so reliability is a key factor |

173 Miles from a single tank sounds about right - 173 MPG does not!
If warranty is a factor for you, you would be better-off with a better-known make, with a good dealer servicing and parts network.
Due to the massive depreciation on new Chinese bikes though, I think you would be wise to spend much less on an older, more reliable machine, learn to do your own routine maintenance, and keep back some of your hard-earned to pay for parts and service consumables. ____________________ Honda Varadero XL125(V8)
