using google wouldn't go a miss (if that's what you need).
When I walked into Kawasaki looking to get a Keeway RKV 125 ages ago the first they said was "we're actually doing away with the brand at the moment, but we can still order you one in" thank god for the declined finance otherwise that would of been a costly lesson.
Moral of the story.. don't know to much about the brand but would avoid (despite owning a chinese bike myself).
You do paint a very one sided "lets just bash the dealership" picture though, more information would be required before a name and shame was needed, although maybe he's just telling you how it is and being honest? |

The reason they've told you to scrap the engine and not sold you a timing chain is because the chain itself is likely to be the least of your concerns.
There is a very high chance of serious engine damage due to the snapped chain and very unlikely worth fixing on a cheap Chinese bike ____________________ Current Bikes / Projects: 1999 Rieju RS1 50

Err... timing chain? Term is usually used on Over-Head-Valve (OHV) push-rod engines that have chain driven cam; on Over-Head-Cam (OHC) engine's, usually called a 'cam-chain'.
Just had a quick look, to see if Keyway use the OHV CG engine, that has neither cam-chain nor timing chain, cam is gear driven off the crank, or the OHC engine, either Honda XL or Suzuki GS based.... even their own web-page is a bit coy, which would tend to suggest its an OHV CG lump.. which begs the question... are you sure it HAS a cam-chain to be broken?
Have you taken the rocker cover off or anything to have a look? what makes you think the cam-chain is snapped? COULD be something totally different...
Meanwhile, as said, if the cam-chain has snapped, what tends to happen is the crank-shaft caries on going round, driving the piston up and down, while the cam stops dead wherever it happens to be... usually opening a valve.. when there is most 'strain' on the cam-chain to make it snap... piston still traveling then comes up the bore and gives the half open valve a hefty smack, resulting in it bending... if you are lucky, the smack doesn't also crack the valve guide, though that can happen when you later try getting the bend valve out. Meanwhile, the snapped cam-chain will have dropped off the cam-sprockets and probably be wrapping itself around the crank sprocket; when it tangles enough, thats what will tend to make the crank stop rotating; but in the mean-time, its likely to get jammed up in stuff, chewed up and drop lots of shards of metal into the bowels of the engine.. it ENT pretty, really, it isn't.. it's a complete engine tear down job to sort out; not a quick or easy job, and likely to require quite a lot of more expensive parts over and above a new cam-chain, depending on what else has been damaged by the failure; cam-chain tensioner mechanism, crank-shaft bearings, piston, head, valves, rockers etc etc etc. Depending on how bad it is... it MIGHT still be cheaper to fix than buying a new engine..... but, probably not as cheap, and certainly not as easy as buying a second hand one......
IF.. diagnosis is correct to begin with..... ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

How do you know that the timing chain has gone?
I mean, what are the symptoms, how have you diagnosed it, and what else has it taken out with it?
www.cmpo.co.uk don't list it, but are pretty good about coming up with appropriate parts. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Good on you for getting stuck in rather than binning it.
I guess that dealership can forget about getting any more business from you? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

has the chain actually snapped?
if so
did it snap cos it slipped and the piston hit a valve?
or did it suddenly snap all on its own causing the piston to
hit a valve?
