Posted: 19:56 - 25 Jun 2015 Post subject: Dozy bird ties to wipe me out on the A2 |
 |
|
Had a spill on the way home tonight, some of you may have passed me by. Riding in lane 1 I just passed the Dartford Heath slip where a lot of people leave the A2, so a far sized gap opened up in front of me. Lane 2 and 3 start bunching up and braking then all of a sudden some dozy bird slices across about 10yds in front of me and I run into her rear quarter hard on the brakes. Down I went like a sack of spuds with my leg trapped under the bike.
I laid in the road for a bit checking all my systems were working, which thankfully they were, then a biker stopped and pulled the traktor off my leg and that let me get up.
The woman (we'll call her Winnie) was concerned that I was hurt but didn't seem overly bothered about the fact she'd tried to kill me with her driving. She said "I have my baby in the car" to which I replied "Well you should drive more carefully then". Here response was "I put my indicator on", which is true, she put the indicator on the same time that she turned the wheel, so not a lot of use to me. then she said " I did look but I didn't see you".
Thankfully the nice lady in the car behind me is a willing witness and saw it all happen. I thanked her for that because without her witness statement Winnie would simply had said that I run into the back of her. My witness said "as soon as I saw her turn I knew what it going to happen" so it should be an easy non-fault for me.
Bimma's going to be written off for sure. The whole front bodywork/subframe is twisted and the steering is fouling badly enough so it won't turn left at all. Forks are probably bent coz the dust seal is a funny shape. Shame, because I really, really like this bike. I might buy another R1100S to replace it. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

I can guess why she was given the name 'Winnie'.
Judging by pic 3 I was right.
And I also guessed Nissan, Honda or Mercedes before I looked at the pics too. Two for two.
I hate to throw stereotypes around but having lived in that part of the UK for most of my life I have to say what happened
to you is typical of a certain type of driver. You are very lucky to have a witness. You are also lucky she never killed you.
I drove a truck around the Tottenham area for 5 years, there was a Winnie every couple of minutes doing something
that made me question how they got their licence. The 'Winnie' that lived next door to me when I lived in Romford
finally passed her AUTOMATIC driving test after 7 attempts. It was 3 days until her first prang. ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha

I always take it as though they're saying "Don't crash into me, because baby" Like I'm supposed to think "oh, okay. I was planning to crash into you but, now I've seen that you have a baby in your car, I won't.
OP. Glad you're pretty much okay. Shame about the bike though.
Also, the indicator thing is one of my pet hates. If they are only going to put it on when they turn, why bother? It's there to indicate your intention, not to signal what you are actually doing, because strangely enough, we can see your vehicle is turning without it. ____________________ There ain't no devil, there's just god when he's drunk.

Ouch, bike looks fixable. do it
Ive been in similar sounding situations before (which may be completely different to what you described) was there no space/time to swerve left and out of its path? A van done this to me but I was level with passenger window - punching it, he continued to move over If I slowed, I would have been squashed into a HGV. So instead I went lane splitting. I may have broke a few rules but somone had just tried to kill me |

Bike is surely fixable but I'll have to see if I get offered the salvage. Parts are ££ though.

No turbo on this engine. Big pistons, long(ish) stroke = bad juju for turbo. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

What they actually mean is: "In the event that you find me trapped in this burning vehicle, ignore me and expose yourself to risk while you search for the probably non-existent baby that I've told you is in it", although most of the cretins that use them have no idea that's what they're saying.
Best of luck with sorting it out. For a wonder, the car does appear to be legit.
This is why I have a Drift Stealth 2 being delivered tomorrow. Last day before I retire from the Force... ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

You don't see many 'Winnies' without at least a few kids in tow.
Even back in the motherland when they are starving and have aidsbola they still somehow keep on popping 'em out. ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha
