Morning all.

My Z1000 runs quite fast at idle when I first start it up and ride it (regardless of if the ambient temperature is cool or not).

It will literally be idling at about 3k until it's been ridden for 5 mins or so, then the idle drops to a more sensible 1100rpm or thereabouts.

I can't say I'd noticed it doing it when I got the bike 6 months or so ago, and I ride it pretty much daily.

Is there some automatic choke arrangement on my bike, or is it simply a case of something is sticking and needs a clean up? The throttle cables seem fine and free moving.

Thanks

Fuel injection? Likely its got a wax idler or some decent form of auto choke that richens it up for the first few mins to warm it up/start when its freezing cold.

I'd not worry Thumbs Up

Yeah, fuel injection.

Just seems weird it runs so high even when it's warm outside of a morning.

Would explain why I've never really noticed it until the weather got a bit warmed I suppose.

Just feel like a tit sat at a junction with my bike revving it's arse off.

If its a wax one, it idles high until it gets enough heat to melt the wax or something similar to that, my CBR had one.

Well, a bit of a development yesterday on the way home.

It didn't rev high when started, however, halfway home the FI light came on.

Got home, checked the code on the dash and it said 63 - which is the exhaust valve actuator, so I set about checking it out and part of this was checking all the cables.

The actuator ones were way out of whack - which is probably what caused the fault light I reckon.

So I checked the throttle cables as well, and they too seemed to have been out of adjustment (like they were adjusted in terms of play, but not the right way - if you know what I mean).

All adjusted, chain adjusted and lubed for good measure, and took it out for another blat out and everything seems fine. better throttle response, smoother power delivery - so probably all related.

Checked it again this morning, and everything including the idle seems fine again.
