 |
|
Hi,
I installed a new slip on exhaust today but am noticing small air leaks around the joint of the header pipe to the slip on.
Nothing major (no noise or smoke clearly coming from there) but very noticeable puffing of air when I put my hand near it.
I was not meant to use the existing gasket and the fit seems nice and snug but no matter how tight I do up the clip, still some air leaks.
So, how can I fix this or am I just being paranoid - what are the potential consequences of leaving it?
If I decide not to just leave it then I'm.guessing I need some putty sealant stuff? Can anyone offer a link to recommended stuff?
Cheers. ____________________ Bikers make great organ donors - add your name to the register

Use some firegum or equivalent.
You can't just smear it on though as the gas will just blow it away.
You need to clamp it in place. So take off the exhaust plop some gum thinly on the inside. Put it back on the downpipe end. Then get an exhaust clamp line the inside with it then clamp it on the join.
In THEORY it is supposed to harden and cook and seal it up.
It worked on my first CBR6 when I used a slip on can and changed the can to a Scorpion can as the very slight hole was covered by the clamp.
It did now work for my SV or fazer though. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will. In the end, your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching. |

General purpose silicon sealant from your local supermarket or DIY place. Don't knock it unless you're tried it. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Firegum purchased and applied liberally.
Motorbike now sounds like a motorbike rather than a sewing machine, and exhaust not blowing ____________________ Bikers make great organ donors - add your name to the register

When it hardens and crumbles, use the silicone sealant. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
