I will make a new thread in the workshop section if it's not the weather.
Today I planned to meet up with a friend and from their we'd ride to Halfords to buy some tools, then to Central London. That didn't happen. The ride to his house was fine, it wasn't until we set off that problems started arising. We were riding through slow traffic, then the bike suddenly started to lose & regain power, then it just cut out. Luckily we weren't too far from a dealership/workshop. I was told that I'd have to get a new engine.
Now for the really embarrassing part, my bike's been due for an oil change for a while (and I am aware that CBFs are known for burning through their oil very quickly). In the past couple of weeks I have gone through a few cheap socket sets trying to the nut off of the bike to get rid of the old oil, the trip to Halfords was to get a decent set. However upon inspection at the workshop it came to my attention that there was little to no oil in the bike Anyway, bought some oil and topped it up.
I have done a search and found that there could be a fuelling issue that affected early models of the CBF, seeing as mine's an 09 one, I guess it could have been affected. But with 5 or 6 previous owners surely it may have been sorted out? Unless it's a recurring issue... I also found that it could be because of warm weather and today is a very hot day... I guess I'll have to see what happens when it cools down?
I have done almost 3000 of the 18000 miles on the bike and this is the only issue I've had with it.
TL;DR CBF125 loses power and stalls, I think it's the weather, but let's just say it's been due for an oil change for a while...

Didn't like the answer you got from professionals on the spot, decided to ask random intardtubers who haven't seen the bike? So deep in De Nile that you can't even bring yourself to post in Workshop?
First question would be why the spanner monkeys said your engine was fubared. Top end, bottom end, in-out-in-out-shake-it-all about end? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Yep, I did have a read of that, pretty much sums it up. Went for a ride yesterday, it was fine. Today (hottest day of the year) it all went wrong. That video is exactly what was happening to me earlier.
I need to determine whether it's the deprivation of oil or fuelling issues that are making life hard. I guess this is the part where I head to the workshop section as I literally have no idea whatsoever where to start. Tomorrow it's going to be cooler and it's going to rain. I'll take the bike out and see if I experience the same thing again. |

Dammit, don't you dare have done the right thing.
Seems very common:

This, I would do as a matter of course:
https://cbf125rider.wordpress.com/2011/08/06/in-line-fuel-filter/
I wonder how many of the used fuel pumps on eBay are failed units?
Oh, and "new engine", who tried to mug you? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

My ZZR was struggling a bit with the heat as were a few others on the M60 crawl this evening so certainly the weather can affect the running of an engine - or in the case of this particular Honda, seem to bring out an underlying problem. ____________________ Looking to pass your CBT / Bike tests in Bury Lancashire? try www.focusridertraining.co.uk Would recommend.

This just in from the University of Accuhaler, in Oxford UK, from Prof Accuhaler PHD DDFG ABC TFG.
Latest study with the recent heat wave in the uk as shown the increase heat has transformed all motorcycle oil currently sat in bikes into little T1000's found in the classic Terminator 2: Judgement day.
On a serious not, a 4stoke needs as much as any engine, 4 things.
1) fuel
2) air
3) spark (ignition)
4) compression
When was the last time you cleaned your carb?
I recently had this problem with my SR 125, quick blast of the jets, and scrub down of the floats, its been fine ever since, well till today some fucktard knocked it over and drove over out side my mothers. expecting twisted forks, The fucktard was my brothers girlfriend. We have yet to speak about compensation!! |

Yeah, saw that thread. But that in line fuel filter may be out of my league o.o
As for the new engine, the lady told me that once the engine seized, that's it. Said to look for an engine on eBay.
As for cleaning the carb, never.
Looks like I might need a new fuel pump...
I'll see how it goes tomorrow. |
