I will make a new thread in the workshop section if it's not the weather.

Today I planned to meet up with a friend and from their we'd ride to Halfords to buy some tools, then to Central London. That didn't happen. The ride to his house was fine, it wasn't until we set off that problems started arising. We were riding through slow traffic, then the bike suddenly started to lose & regain power, then it just cut out. Luckily we weren't too far from a dealership/workshop. I was told that I'd have to get a new engine.

Now for the really embarrassing part, my bike's been due for an oil change for a while (and I am aware that CBFs are known for burning through their oil very quickly). In the past couple of weeks I have gone through a few cheap socket sets trying to the nut off of the bike to get rid of the old oil, the trip to Halfords was to get a decent set. However upon inspection at the workshop it came to my attention that there was little to no oil in the bike Crying or Very sad Embarassed Anyway, bought some oil and topped it up.

I have done a search and found that there could be a fuelling issue that affected early models of the CBF, seeing as mine's an 09 one, I guess it could have been affected. But with 5 or 6 previous owners surely it may have been sorted out? Unless it's a recurring issue... I also found that it could be because of warm weather and today is a very hot day... I guess I'll have to see what happens when it cools down?

I have done almost 3000 of the 18000 miles on the bike and this is the only issue I've had with it.

TL;DR CBF125 loses power and stalls, I think it's the weather, but let's just say it's been due for an oil change for a while...

When did you last change the oil or check the oil level?

Maybe a few hundred miles ago? I just check it every so often. However I have never leant the bike over when I have done so (like the way the mechanic did today), I just assumed everything was all good from the way that the dipper would always show signs of oil when checked.

Didn't like the answer you got from professionals on the spot, decided to ask random intardtubers who haven't seen the bike? So deep in De Nile that you can't even bring yourself to post in Workshop?

First question would be why the spanner monkeys said your engine was fubared. Top end, bottom end, in-out-in-out-shake-it-all about end?

They said it because they have an 03/04 CBR600RR in the shop that has the same issues I described.

What makes me think it's the heat is because of what I read. If I start the bike up now, it'll idle just fine, it'll run just fine. This is similar to what happened earlier, if I left it to cool down, it would idle without an issue, it would also ride for a mile or two without an issue. If I kept riding it during it's times of trouble (and I did, to get home) it would run for a shorter amount of time.

Embarassed You could say that... Along with the loss of power and stalling.

A friend of mine rides a Hyosung GT250R, when we were in Central London the other day the exact same thing happened to him. Warm day, no oil, bike loss power and then stalled. Turned out to be an issue with the ignition coils though Crying or Very sad

Unknown.

I'm just trying to figure out if that's really it for the engine.

I made it home, it would be fine after letting it cool down for a while.

Yep, I did have a read of that, pretty much sums it up. Went for a ride yesterday, it was fine. Today (hottest day of the year) it all went wrong. That video is exactly what was happening to me earlier.

I need to determine whether it's the deprivation of oil or fuelling issues that are making life hard. I guess this is the part where I head to the workshop section as I literally have no idea whatsoever where to start. Tomorrow it's going to be cooler and it's going to rain. I'll take the bike out and see if I experience the same thing again.

I wonder how many of the used fuel pumps on eBay are failed units? Thinking

Oh, and "new engine", who tried to mug you? Laughing

My ZZR was struggling a bit with the heat as were a few others on the M60 crawl this evening so certainly the weather can affect the running of an engine - or in the case of this particular Honda, seem to bring out an underlying problem.

This just in from the University of Accuhaler, in Oxford UK, from Prof Accuhaler PHD DDFG ABC TFG.

Latest study with the recent heat wave in the uk as shown the increase heat has transformed all motorcycle oil currently sat in bikes into little T1000's found in the classic Terminator 2: Judgement day.

On a serious not, a 4stoke needs as much as any engine, 4 things.

    1) fuel
    2) air
    3) spark (ignition)
    4) compression

When was the last time you cleaned your carb?

I recently had this problem with my SR 125, quick blast of the jets, and scrub down of the floats, its been fine ever since, well till today some fucktard knocked it over and drove over out side my mothers. expecting twisted forks, The fucktard was my brothers girlfriend. We have yet to speak about compensation!!

New fuel pump - bike was under warranty still though, so no cost for me.

Yeah, saw that thread. But that in line fuel filter may be out of my league o.o

As for the new engine, the lady told me that once the engine seized, that's it. Said to look for an engine on eBay.

As for cleaning the carb, never.

Looks like I might need a new fuel pump...

I'll see how it goes tomorrow.

Come to think about it, there is a guy at my work, with a CBF 2014 plate, has more rust on it then my 35 year old yammy. We had a conversation, well I say we, I mean he bitched about his fuel pump to some other guys whilst I just sat there not engaging in the conversation.

The question you need to be asking is, do carb'd bikes actually need a fuel pump, what is wrong with gravity fed carbs? less electrical shit to go wrong, and the tank is 99.9999999999999999999% of the time directorial over the carb.

Or is this the moment I learn 125 CBFs are fuel injected?

Why would anyone fuel inject a one cylinder. it just adds more parts to fail unless the idea was to make money from the failing parts,
