Won't turn over at all. Even with the rac mans booster pack thingy. It clicks, I can here the starter giving its all but it simply won't go. Not even a single cranking noise.
Suspect maybe top end seized..or potentially those pesky magnets disintegrating but won't know for sure until I take the time to break it down. If not that maybe cam chain gave up the ghost.
It's really disheartening I've spent the best part of the last 2 months getting it running how I wanted and it was sublime the last 2 days. So much quieter, pick up was fantastic off the line all the way to the red. Valve clearances were done, Color tune confirmed mixture was right, carbs were balanced and all cleaned out and old jets replaced, new fuel lines and filter, new cables here n there, new tyres, chain and sprockets, new ht lead and plug caps and plugs, loads of new oil and oil filters in the last 1000 miles, must have been 3 or 4 changes, new air filter and a lot of time spent getting it done |

Heh, I have the KLE500 and my bike has done exactly the same thing in the past, riding fine then suddenly locking the rear wheel. In my case the gearbox quit, something broke inside and flew around in the gearbox smashing into other stuff until the gears were jammed.
I have like, three Kawasaki 500 parallel twin engines spare now. ____________________ 2007 BMW R1200R: On road

@jon the problem is needing to spend more money on it than i have already :/ so it may be off the road for a little while as i need a reliable daily. Throwing another few hundred quid at it would probably solve things providing nothing integral is mashed...but for how long?
I really liked this bike too, even if it does have a pink stripe
KLE500. That looks fun! Assume its the same engine with a lower CR?
I looked at a few er500's last night for a temp measure but they're just not the same. |

Sucks, reminds of a few years ago, me and a mate rebuilding a flat four vw lump, from the block up. On a tight tight budget, calling favours from dad's mates and spending hours climbing around scrap yards. Got it running sweet, 50miles into the run-in just pulling off the M1 onto a inclined slip road and twackt!! from the engine bay, red generator light flicks on - fanbelt snapped I couldnt lift off the juice or even dip the clutch because of the traffic behind me, by the time id got to the top I was running a lump of redhot jelly, by the time the RAC turned up it'd cooled into a solid lump of 3 months work down the pan... Strip Down rebuild repeat.. it's a bind and a ball ache and the kind of wall we either break through or sell the tool box and buy reasonable priced car, I feel for you. I was looking at a early '90's GPZ 500 t'other day on evil bay sweeeeeet. Booked marked it, looked outside saw a 45 year old vw bus rolling project and a 50 year old boat and promptly brought a reasonably priced k1 bandit with proven 10k on the clocks hope you get the gpz spinning again soon - it's interesting doing the analysis though, turns out on my rebuild and repeat on the vw was due to one of the pully wheel spacers had a burred edge due to kicking around a mates workshop as a vice buffer for years plus I'd used a late belt which sat lower in the pully causing the burr to fray the belt - simple snap and melt the f@#%in engine jobo. Good luck anyways, I think you got the best weather out of it though  |

Go for it, these things make them much more ours, and if we did what we "should". We'd probably all be driving reasonably priced cars with shiny new cats on them.. Iblame the petrol fumes they put stuff in it to make it addictive!! Goodluck anyway, hopefully it'll be a straight forward fix. I was saying lastnight I really don't think I could go back to commuting in a car, it's basically stop start stop start all the way to work, I can either filter or take the long way round and have fun - I never had fun communiting in the car, just made me even more pi@@ed I was going to work on the bike I get to work awake and smiling even if I'm frozen and wet, and the first dawns of summer are truly inspiring, midwinter just makes the first coffee sooooo much better - may the spanners be smiling for you! |

Had something similar to that happen to me once: way back when I was a noob.
Turned out it was a broken piston.
Who knew.
Suffice to say, 19 years on, my knowledge is such that I still wouldn't know if I did it again. ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |
