Thoughts and opinions on this guys... Will this chain and sprocket clean up?
It is actually a brand new chain that has only done about 10 miles or so, but has been sat at the back of a garage for about 2 years.
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xtf1/v/t1.0-9/11665731_10153395912772768_2423422821845675081_n.jpg?oh=530578deb39e69392458779ad5b45e15&oe=561F7303
A new chain is only £13 but I don't want to spend any unnecessary cash on the bike in case it fails an MOT so would have been £13 wasted if it fails on something else, but there is a possibility that it will fail for the chain if I don't get a new one and in which case I would loose money paying for an MOT retest (going on holiday so wont be able to get it in within the allotted retest time).
P.S. I like to things on a budget especially where this bike is concerned, so please when you answer, assume that £13 is actually a lot of money.
Also,
Is there such a thing as spindle bobbins? As you can see there is nowhere to use a stand on this bike and I have in the past used 2 axle stands under the swing arm to clean the chain, but looking for a more professional option since the bike sometimes slips off the stands if they are not lined up correctly.
Or if I have just invented a new product that hasnt been invented before, can someone suggest an alternative method to clean chains? |

Got one of those, but the swing arm slips on that as well because the bike sits quite high and the angle is quite steep as a result. |

In my view, that chain has had it. Although knowing this place, someone will come along in a minute and tell me it can be made good as new ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Never post pictures of a slack chain on BCF.
What makes you think that the chain and sprockets won't clean up? |

Attempting to cosmetically enhance that chain is going to take an eternity.
I once 'cleaned-up' a chain that wasn't half as bad as yours and I've vowed to never do it again.
Stop being a stereo-typical jock and buy a new one.

So much potential fail in this
Spindle Bobbins - yes they exist but you would need a rear axle bolt with a hole right the way through to make it work. Or you can get some that clamp around the end of the swingarm.

However, if you are too tight to weigh out a paltry thirteen pounds on a chain then those will be out of budget. ____________________ stinkwheel: He had an animated .gif of a cat performing fellatio. It's not socially acceptable. It can have real life adverse effects on other people. |

Got to be a bit worried about anyone who balks at spending such a small amount on such an essential item. What other corners will be cut? I think there are times when one just has to face the fact that they are not in a position to run any kind of motor vehicle. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Ive bit the bullet and ordered up a shiny new £13 (which can be collected from Argos ) as well as a new fuel filler cap too. This bike just doesn't know how good I am to it. Already bought it a new horn for £6 this week!
Will post back once it goes for its MOT.
Should I start a poll to see if it will fail or not? |

A bit of spit and polish should do the trick.
Seriously though, go and buy a new chain. ____________________ There ain't no devil, there's just god when he's drunk.
