cb400 superfour

Hi folks, I'm getting itchy feets again and fancying another change of bike. 2 a year seems the rate at the moment

anyway, I don't know what it's worth at the moment.... plus it's winter

it's a '92 cb400 superfour. tested, good tyres/brakes/etc... It needs throtte cables doing, which I have, and will be fitting shortly. does everything just like it should. miles are about 80k km (49k miles) but the bike is in better order than some of the lower mileage ones on ebay and such.

anyone with some knowledge of the japanese 400 market like to chime in with some sort of valuation guidance?

Guy where I used to work paid £900 for one similar age, condition but almost half the miles. I thought it seemed a bargain but don't really know shit about them other than the much later VTEC ones sell for lots more than the old ones.

I'm cynical so would assume the KM is = to miles as they may have used a screw in converter on the speedo and then just removed it prior to selling to make mileage look lower.

I'd say anywhere between 500-1000, higher than that and you'll struggle to sell unless someone falls in love with the bike. If I hadn't just got the ZZR I'd offer you about 7-800.

Ah then it's a K, '92. Low mileage, seems to have been sat for a while, the seller seems to do cars more than bikes, but got 12 months MOT and a few bits replaced. I'll keep the handles nicely 2 up quiet at work, otherwise I'll be picking people up all the time!
Wanted something more practical than the FZR, but with more power than the CG and this one cropped up.

Is it easy to get a rack for a topbox on these?

What a bike. I got mine off Craig23 off here and was such a great bike. I have a hornet 600cc and the superfour was still better for city riding and filtering, can chuck this bike so easy!! Still sad I didnt keep mine.

They are pretty rare these days and if you were not in a rush £900-1000 seems fair. I sold mine was bad damage on the tank for £850 but lower miles (30,000 km maybe?) but that was 2 years ago.

What are thinking of getting next?

Cheers for the input folks. I think it's more sellers remorse from my zzr which I sold in summer. My riding had changed ie my commute is 3% of my old one. So I want something with a bit more go again for the weekends. I did put feelers out to buy it back but the new owner seems to be reeeeaally enjoying it and not at all into that idea. I liked the all day comfort that went with the more than adequate power and delivery. It'll probably be another zzr 6 for that reason next. I had fancied a cbr1100xx but I don't know really. Double be cost.... Is it double the bike in real on the road terms?

When insuring one of these do you have to tick "yes" to the question about whether the bike was imported? Ticking yes for me has 1 insurer willing to give a price of £500 fully comp/£230 tpft while ticking no (and they list the cb400 sf as an import under the model name) gives me £200 a year fully comp or £105 tpft! That's cheaper than my varadero to insure

being honest, i leave the box ticked no... though the reg comes up as cb400 super four (grey).. so they know it's an import model.


if anyone's interested in a solid little 400, she's just been mot'd today and had service a couple weeks ago.. good to go!

mileage is virtually the same... i think it's now up to 49k (miles) and whatever that is in kms... condition and running would suggest a bike of 1/4 this mileage.. as you can see in the pics at the top. wasn't ridden through winter, not even once, and has barely been ridden this year.

I'd like a grand... I'm open to reasonable suggestion though... it'll be going on ebay/scumtree/etc for £1300ono to chance my luck...

No niggles, it's a Honda... And a jdm one at that.

It all works just like it should. Needs nothing. Mot guy commented that he doesn't believe the mileage because it's so nice.

had new throttle cables, and had exhaust gaskets, and new rubber o-rings on the cooling system after sitting all winter. Just bits that naturally perished. But anything it's needed, it's had.

I don't dick about, it is a genuine bike. I'be finally managed to get the new owner of my last bike to sell it back to me after a year of sellers remorse. I sell them for a change, not because they're broken like some folk. This time the change wasn't right for me. Once I get my zzr back it'll be staying for good


*to add... I'm 5"9 and I find it extremely comfortable... Not remotely cramped. And I'm one of those odd long legged short armed Italian sorts

Yeah, love it, I can't believe the mileage at all, it felt mint, the ride back gave me a bit of a chance to get used to it. She's found a new home, it makes the GPZ seem redundant now.

It has a good wail at about 8000!

Dammit, I was reading this post and saw the bike, and I thought:
In this case Fladdem is right and you should never sell it, as it looks so cool a nice 400cc mini muscle bike with great detail and styling too!

You'll miss this silly sooner or later I will guarantee it!

But then Someone has got themselves a brilliant looking smart naked that has plenty of performance and style too! My only worry is where in the garage are they going to find room to keep it, with the one or two other machines already in there?

Steve, she's gone in the garden for now, I'm going to invest in some decent bike covers, eventually it will go into the garage, I promised I'd sell the pit bike, and this Honda would fit there, the pit bike is annoyingly just too big that it takes up the space of a whole bike but too small that it doesn't seem worth it. It's hard to describe, but the pit bike is just too big to tuck out the way.

Mother doesn't enjoy the garden as much as me. I think my ornaments add a little something.

It's not as small as I thought, the legs angles feel about the same as my off-roaders, maybe a touch more tucked under, and the seat is very wide, but having done 49,000 miles/80,000 KM's, the foam has gone very soft and it only took about an hour for me to get a numb bum. I also took a while to get used to not having the handlebars sat in my lap and the fact I didn't need to fill up twice on the way home.

I do need to look at not hoarding stuff so much. On my 21st, the 24th of July, I'll have owned the pit bike for exactly a year and used it twice? That should go really, but I can't bring myself to do it. I just feel that at some point in the future, I might really want it.

I'm not a bad influence at all!

First pic is awesome and gives the garden some real depth and dimension too!

Have you thought about having the bikes in a triangle on stands or bolted down, and making a table that would fit in the middle and just come to the level of the handlebars or fairings etc. Then all you'd need is a green glass circular fridge in the centre with a porthole opening window in the top, and spring loaded bottle holders that come out to dispense the Carlsberg's! have some dry ice smoking out of it and green lighting around all the bikes too!

Fuck me forget shed of the year, I think I've just helped design garden of the year, and the best Chelsea show exhibit 2016 too!

The second pic scares the shit out of me though, and I'd rather watch creepy horrific films in a deserted old warehouse with no lights and signs of life etc, than even think about opening the garage door!
